The tag team of Jesse & Festus was one of the most creative and entertaining gimmicks I've seen in a long time.  I've always liked tag teams that have a huge power wrestler with a smaller high speed/high flyer wrestler but this was a totally different take on that idea.  The fact that you had this huge wrestler that was in a catatonic state that would come to life and explode when he heard the bell ring was great.  As a matter of fact, it seemed like they were on their way to being tag team champions because that had some big wins early on and I thought their fued with The Miz and John Morrison was great but once again the WWE dropped the ball.

The fact that they're no longer a tag team is bad enough but their new gimmicks are horrible.  Jesse is now "Slam Master J" and Festus is now "Luke Gallows" and these characters are very similar to characters we've seen in the past that failed.  The Luke Gallows gimmick reminds me of Bam Neely or even the ex-con Crush gimmick which were all boring and failed.  The Slam Master J character is no different than Brian Kendrick's "Spanky" or John Cena the rapper.  I mean, these new characters are destined to fail and I can definitely see the former Jesse & Festus both being let go.  Oh well, maybe once that happens (which will probably be sooner than later) they can reunite in TNA under a similar gimmick.

I agree.  They dropped the ball on them big time.  Jesse will not do anything as a singles wrestler because he's too small and giving him John Cena's heel wigger gimmick even though he's supposed to be a face isn't doing him any favors either.  Festus is a really good big man worker who can move, but as a heel he's become the typical bodyguard and brawler that we've all seen a million times before.  They'll both be released before this time next year.  As a team, they were shockingly good in the ring despite the Pavlov's dog gimmick with the bell ringing that got old real fast.

This thread was great before AA ruined it.

They should try dressing Festus up in Kane's old gear again.

I actually liked the Crush ex con gimmick when he debuted with it. His look was great with the forehead tatoo and the outfit. Plus he looked like he was off the juice, so his body wasn't quite up to it had been. Crush really did look like a guy who just got out of prison. I think the general state of the WWF at the time harmed him since his gimmick as it was presented didn't fit in a promotion that still aimed itself at kids and families, plus the promotion was on the run from WCW and wasn't reacting well to being number 2. Getting put in the Nation did him no favors either. Had Crush come in with that ex con gimmick in mid 1997 or 1998, he'd have stood a better chance.

The Luke Gallows gimmick isn't bad and they found a semi-reasonable way to get rid of the Festus gimmick. However, pairing him with CM Punk is a drag on Punk more than anything. That's probably the idea to an extent, but regardless, it's a bad fit for a guy they might need over enough to main event if a few Smackdown guys get hurt.

The Jesse and Festus gimmick wasn't that great, it was just another one of Vince's self-loathing Southerner moments.

Jesse's better off waiting to get endeavored and going to ROH since he's never going to be taken serious in WWE due to his small size. The only reason he hasn't already been released is that Michael Hayes still has pull.

As far as Festus goes, his new gimmick won't make him a main eventer but it's miles better than being a drooling retard. I'm sure at some point they'll turn him on CM Punk, which may be a help since you never know when Punk will upset someone in upper management by not wearing a suit again.
