Always liked this. When a certain move or hold was "outlawed".

My favorite was when the WWF outlawed the figure four leglock ...and The Grand Wizard's " Attorneys" lobbied to get the move re-instated. Which just gave Greg Valentine even more juice when he went to use it.

What were some other "Banned Move" storylines that you remember?

Piledriver banned in Memphis yet it was Lawler's finisher.

I think in recent years (might still be legitimately banned) in the WWE was the piledriver. Pretty sure this all came about when Austin had his neck injury and Austin was their "bread and butter" at the time.

Jimmy Hart and Honky Tonk Man started the "Ban the DDT" campaign during the feud with Jake Roberts.

The spike piledriver that Arn and Tully used was banned in the NWA and they had to do it behind the ref's back.

I vaguely remember talk about how George Steele's flying hammerlock needed to be banned in the WWF during the early '80s.

Wasn't there somethign where the Steiner Screwdriver was legit banned in WWF and WCW both? (That was his vertical suplex-hold position-drop into piledriver thingy)

I don't think it's outlawed, just not used because it's too dangerous.  Certainly I don't rememeber Jack Tunney coming on telly to announce its banning.

I don't think he ever even used in in the WWF.  He used in in WCW a handful of times and it was an insane move that I'm sure everyone realized would eventually break someone's neck.  Funny thing is I invented the move when I was about 6 playing with my AWA action figures.  When I saw it years later, I was like "Holy Shit, I can't believe someone is crazy enough to do it in real life!"

They tried to ban the Asian Spike in World Class, even to the point of trying to break Brian Adias's thumb.

During Ed Lewis' heydey, various matches of his would have the headlock banned.

Way back when, coming off the top rope was an automatic dq in the AWA.  Needless to say, whenever it happened, most often with the ref knocked out, it led to a lengthy (storyline) hospitalization and major feud.

That was also done in the WWF, IIRC.

He used it in the WWF once, on Owen, in a match with Rick against Bret & Owen

The Russian Nut Lock was also banned in several territories, except in the WWF/E. I heard Pat Patterson likes to use it on the Brooklyn Brawler.:dude:
