Near the end of the Sting vs. Sid Vicious match at Halloween Havoc '90, Sting went up the aisle and out of the arena with Sid, then Sid returned with Barry Windham as an imposter Sting and pinned him for the apparent win only for the real Sting to come out draped in ropes. Then the match restarted and Sting won.

That leaves my poor memory with two questions.

1. Was it ever acknowleged during the Halloween Havoc Broadcast that the imposter was Barry Windham? For that matter, was it ever even acknowledged on WCW TV in the aftermath? I don't remember either happening.

2. The Apter mags definitely stated that Ole tied up Sting when they got behind the curtain so Barry could take his place. However, Ole was already gone from WCW TV by then. Did WCW ever specifically state Ole was behind it?

They never mentioned it again, and Ole was gone so that story was false.

As an aside, I don't know why but later that night the guys had the wildest post-show party I've ever seen, complete with multiple examples of "Why Ric Flair will someday be broke". :(

Thanks.

With the Apter mag deal with Ole, I think they were looking for the logical explanation that WCW didn't bother to come up with. Since Sid was in the ring, Barry was posing as Sting, and Flair and Arn were in the arena after trading punches with Sting and not the back, Ole was the only logical culprit even if he hadn't been on TV in quite some time.

Apart from not mentioning Barry was the imposter Sting later on, did they even ID him as the fake Sting during the PPV? I don't remember them doing so. It took a moment for me to catch that it was BW too due to his Sting haircut and the paint.

It may be a false memory, but I seem to remember the announcer (I think it was JR) yelling "THAT'S BARRY WINDHAM!" when the camera got a clear shot of his face.

Dammit - it was Sting that Sid pinned. Here's a picture to prove it.

And here the video too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djlxBZJApVg

I remember that article from the Apter mags. It had Sid grousing about participating in a scam instead of just trying to win the belt honestly. "I could've been the champion!" he protested.

The Apter mags' last great works always centered on Sid and the Horsemen.  Someone over there had quite the John Grisham streak when it came to stories about those guys.

No pictures. This was 1990, back when people could actually have fun and not worry about people recording things on their cell phones and posting them on the internet.

Flair got the mic from the DJ and did a five minute Black Scorpion impersonation. There's no way to make it funny in print, but it was hilarious.

What was scary was that Flair when asked the guy for the mic, the DJ said he couldn't let him do it- it might get him fired. After a bit of bantering Flair pulled out his wallet, piling $50 and $100 bills until the guy finally agreed to let Flair have the mic for only five minutes, all under the guise that Flair grabbed the mic without permission*. All told, I'd say Flair spent about $600 of 1990 money for that five minutes of fun. On top of that, he was buying drinks for everyone in sight.

While I'm gossiping, Flair was AMAZING. He'd meet a girl, walk out with her, and come back about an hour later, looking a bit messier than he did when he left. I only saw him do it twice on this night, but I've seen him do it three times.

*At which point Arn Anderson menacingly barked out "that's what the fuck you should have done in the first place and kept your goddamned money".

Speaking of Arn, when I asked how he was doing he got straight to the point. "I need to get laid TONIGHT- no bullshit. I've got enough cum built up to shampoo a moose". I was dying laughing and he looked at me and said "what, you've never heard that one before?".

No, I hadn't. Good times.

Fucking hell.  There's no way I can sleep tonight with that bouncing around in my head.

Is that why Sid needed a squeegie?
