Herb did a sort of extension on his Carpentier bio in this weeks WON. He stated that the Grand Prix promotion from Montreal which ran through the 70's kind of imploded because they were using guys who were too old on top ala WCW. I think this is wrong. Does anyone here remember the story of Dick Taylor? Taylor was for the most part a career long jobber who got a makeover by the Rougeaus as a bleach blond truck driver from Michigan around 1973. They put the International belt on him and had him feud with Jacques Rougeau. Our hero Dick was supposedly supposed to drop the title in quick order but steadfastly refused to do the J-O-B. This lead to the Rougeaus and the LeDucs trying to "convince" him to do business. Dickie refused and they of course beat the shit out of him. Know the killer was, Taylor sued Grand Prix for all they were worth. This was of course the kayfabe era. Before you know it,  Quebec politicians got into the game and they wanted wrestling banned. It killed the business up in Montreal forever and ever. Does anyone else remember this or add anything to the story?

From the KM article that Principal Raditch linked to.

As if all of this wasn't bad enough for All-Star, disaster soon struck in the form of one Dick Taylor. A longtime journeyman, Taylor was re-packaged as a crazy, blond-haired truck driver from Flint, Michigan and plugged into a feud with Jacques Rougeau Sr., who was now the top babyface following Johnny's final retirement. For no particular reason, the program actually clicked and Taylor captured the International belt on June 18th at the Forum before a capacity crowd.

Then, everything went horribly wrong.

edit: for some reason I couldn't C & P the full article

Meltzer didn't credit anybody in that issue. Just thought you'd want to know.

I am bumping this because Dick Taylor has emailed into the site and stating that there is more to the story. I have invited him to share with us and if or as he does so, we'll make sure his side of the story is heard.

Dick Taylor writes in and adds

Never was an agreement for a return match set up, Rogeau set the match with out my permission or consent. I had other arrangements that I had made. I didn't show so he made up what ever he told everybody.  He got a hold of me an offered to pay me for the match I didn't work if I would come back to Montreal and sign for a new rematch.  I agreed and it was a set up for them to get me, the rest of the story is correct.

Would love to hear from Dick. I've always been fascinated by this story.

He'd better not claim it was his brother with the big ears that screwed the Rougeau's over, because I'd have to call bullshit on him!

Also beej let him know that he has to join before 4/1 or else he wouldn't be eligible for the 2016 POTY tourney.

Is Dick Taylor related to Terry? They look very similar. I also wonder if Blackjack Mulligan told him about this place.
