I'm sure this has been hit on boards many times, but with the recent passing of the "all-time greatest manager (until the next manager dies)," I'm wondering who is number one in other people's minds.

Of course, you can use different criteria to determine "best ever," based on things like longevity, exposure, great wrestling cards and angles, etc, etc.  So this one is just about who is your favorite and why?

I enjoy a lot of managers, but my favorite then, is still my favorite now:  James E. Cornette.

He made me always stop the channel and tune in back when he came to Mid-South. I was only a casual viewer at that time (everyone was then), but something about him made me glued to the set when he was on. A year or so later, as I graduated into a fanatic, it was still Cornette who kept me glued to the set, or into the live match as much or more than anyone. Cornette gets my nod as much for being my favorite while I was a wrestling jumkie, AND beign my favorite looking back, AND for being the most interesting character (probably even more than wrestlers like JYD, Andre, Kabuki, R'n'R, Stardust, etc) I'd see on wrestling programs when I was much more casual (and ignorant) about rasslin.

The Grand Wizard (RIP) tops the list for me. As far as guys that are living I totally enjoyed Lou Albano, Bobby Heenan and JJ Dillon.

Bobby Heenan.

That's all we ever knew in Chicago with a few others in for short stays.

Grand Wizard for me.

I think Heenan is one of those who has transcended into over-hype.

Jim Cornette

Not sure you can find anyone with more passion for the business than Jim Cornette.

I stand corrected about my post.

The topic is Favorite Manager, and I thought it was Great manager.

Wit this topic being Favorite Manager, I believe it really isn't arguable, since it could be anybody depending on who you thought was good.

Bobby Heenan by far. He was just about the only manager in late 80's-early 90's WWF that was not portrayed as a clown.

Cornette...and actually, Ellering..as a I always loved the fact that Ellering was PERFECT as the Roadies manager..he himself looked like a total badass, and he had just an "air" about him when he talked..

Yes.

Those that grew up watching him only in the WWF missed tons of his really great stuff from the AWA and WWA. As good as he was in the WWF, he was ten times better before he got there.
