I had no idea he had a site.  Kind of cool, lots of videos.  Lance also has a blog, too.

Lance and his son have done a very good job with the site.  The new interview features are cool, Lance responds to message board questions, the columns are good, and the clips are fun and include stuff not on YouTube (and I should rip some stuff as QuickTime to send to him).

Not to toot my own horn, but my audio interviews with Lance are a must if you're a fan of his and enjoy his the short interviews on his site.  Generally, everyone that I've gotten feedback from loved these interviews and they were probably the most fun I've had so far doing these.  He made it so easy to get a dialogue going and when you talk to him, he makes you feel like you've been friends for years.  I'd say that you should listen to both interviews, but the second one is better and more candid (some of which really surprised me, as he opened up about stuff with Lawler that I didn't try to prod for at all).  I hope to get back to doing more interviews (including more w/ Lance) soon.  The interviews with Lance are at http://davidbix.com/?p=12  and http://davidbix.com/?p=23

With all due respect to the other great wrestling announcers, Lance was the absolute best, my all-time favorite.

Lance may have been the best.

Did he ever end up doing a PPV? I definitely think of him as the "pre PPV" era but am thinking he may have done a couple with WCW.

I agree.  No one got over an angle like Russell, and some of those angles he had to get over were pretty damn goofy.  And with all due respect to Lawler and Fun, Russell made that empty arena match, not him.  If Michael Cole is the announcer instead, it goes from all-time classic to all-time worst segment ever.  When I need an example of what to do to make something realistic, I think back to Russell smoking on camera because he says this will never air anyway.

Thanks amerorig!

No announcer could get an angle over like Lance Russell.  Nobody.  From the aforementioned empty arena match to the incredible "tag team of the year' angle w/ the New Fabulous Ones (where all you see is his reaction when Gilbert attacks Rich as they walk away), he's without peers.  He was also by far the best at leading interviews with green performers, with the first promos of Jim Cornette (where Lance basically feeds him his lines as slickly as possible) to Scotty "The Body" Levy coming to mind.  Plus (and this is something nobody ever talks about with him), he was one of the best ring announcers ever, too, on the level of Howard Finkel, Jimmy Lennon, Norm Kimber, and Gary Michael Cappetta.

As far as PPVs, he only called one (in WCW he only did interviews on PPV though he did PBP on TV) show, just few years ago (which also used the title "Wrestling Legends 6:05 - The Reunion"):

World Wrestling Legends
March 5, 2006 in Orlando, FL
Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando, FL drawing 500
Shown April 29, 2006 on PPV
  1. Jim Duggan pinned Nikolai Volkoff.

  2. Rick Steiner pinned Virgil.

  3. Koko Ware pinned Disco Inferno.

  4. Jimmy Snuka beat Greg Valentine via DQ.

  5. Vampiro pinned Eddie Colon.

  6. Jake Roberts beat Kamala via DQ.

  7. Mike Graham & Dory Funk, Jr. beat Tully Blanchard & David Flair via pinfall.

  8. Diamond Dallas Page pinned Kanyon.

  9. Bob Brad, & Scott Armstrong beat Bobby Eaton, Dennis Condrey, & Stan Lane when Lane was pinned.

  10. Scott Steiner pinned Buff Bagwell.

  11. Johnny B. Badd & Russ Rollins beat The Blue Meanie & Norman Smiley.
