Fake it so real is the name of an film shot last year by Robert Greene in Lincolnton,NC featuring the MWF,the film has been making it's way around the hron at film festivals and is having it's theatrical release this week.

We folks in the MWF are of course excited about it even if we don't expect it to be as big as "The Wrestler" or even maybe getting any true mainstream exposure (but you never know what can happen).

Just today a couple of the guys were in the Wall Street Journal,my buddy Zane "the Cadillac of Stars" Riley (who is no longer with the MWF but is working as,in his own words,an "Indy fucker")and Hojo "the Devil" Devlin are in this pic.

(Rossi,do you get the journal?)

Here's a  preview of the thing,as well, but of course the goddamm thing won't embed

and another

http://fakeitsoreal.com/ (You have to click the trailer,I don't know how to embed this kind of stuff unless it's on youtube)

Anyways, looks like the MWF might be getting some exposure, the filmmaker has allready had several of the guys in NYC for interviews and matches a few months ago,if this thing takes off we may get to do it again, and this time I'll be there, too.:)

(Yeah,my ugly self is in the film, but not in any of these trailers,I was in the crowd at the time not working as a ref)

I really like the idea of our little Fed playing in the Big City, this is pretty darn cool.

Congrats katook, I hope the fed gets a good rub from the film.

I haven't read the articles in the links you posted yet, but I'm wondering, is this film a documentary, or a drama?

Documentary type film.

Robert Greene and his crew taped the film over a 2 week timeframe,he interviewed most of the guys and spent time with some of them between shows, and then filmed them in action at the next Saturdays show.

The movie isn't a wrestling movie,it's a movie that happens to feature regular guys that just happen to wrestle every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.

These kinds of movies have been done before, but it's when guys you know personally and it's about a group you are a part of,well that makes it really cool.

I sure as Hell never thought I would see Zane or Hojo in the WSJ.

I came across this on Hulu Plus last night and when they said they were in NC I thought maybe someone had posted about it on here.  It vaguely rang a bell.

Well-executed documentary but man, are those guys sad.  Marks playing wrestlers, and never is that more funny then when they try to train a new guy.  The blind leading the blind.  One guy actually says that the training is $250 unless he pisses them off, then it might be $,1000 or more.  LOL  They take this 39-year old with asthma and start bumping with him.  I could not do the conversation justice here.

There's a rookie Gabriel who actually looks like he's been in a gym and at least knows a couple moves, but the others are a sight to behold.  Lots of skinny fat guys and just fat fat guys trying to make it by creating gimmicks but not wanting to put the work in.  The documentarian tries to make them look sympathetic but they spend most of the movie living down to every inbred stereotype imaginable, including an obsession with calling each other gay (seriously, not one conversation doesn't devolve into this) and a shot of the crowd at the end that includes a grand total of about 5 teeth and lots of people who think it's absolutely real.

These guys actually think they can make it to WWE and are killing themselves trying to get there.  One guy known for having a fat ass comes up way short on a tope suicida and almost kills himself, and when asked why he tried that move he starts crying and says "Because I wanted to be a good worker and not the fat kid with the big ass all my life."  Well botching risky moves you're not capable of doing is certainly the sign of a good worker.

There's one guy with a head on his shoulders who works a desk job full-time and knows this is just a hobby, but the others and worse than the fans.

Anyway, interesting doc.  Most of these types of movies are more at the higher-level indy talent, you don't often see a movie focused on guys like these that treats the subject matter seriously.

Some of the guys did stupid shit because of the camera, such as J Preps suicide dive.I have seen him do it successfully several times, he fucked up on trying it that time as he had already hurt his ankle earlier, but since the camera was on he went for it, and he was would tell you today it wasn't a smart decision.Big ass or not, in real life he is a paramedic and volunteer fireman, and a very intelligent guy.
As for the trainee, he was way out of his league, most folks who bump in out old fashioned hard ass wooden ring quit, its not as easy as it looks, why not take his money if he comes back, which most don't?
As for Gabe, he's out of wrestling totally.   He left to try the Indy's and couldn't hack it, so he came back, and got his pussy hurt when a didn't make him our champ, mostly because he always wanted to do stupid shit. He pissed a lot of people off.  I once reffed an Indy show, ( non MWF) where he was as involved, and copped an attitude and the other guy, a veteran from another Fed, shot on him and legit beat the shit out of him, if Pitt ( also in the movie ), didn't save his ass he probably would have gotten hurt bad.
Zane Riley is now out on the circuit, getting bookings from Ohio to Florida and all over the South, he's a friend, I've seen him go against Vader and Kevin Steen and a few other " names", so it goes to prove that its not where you start, but how far you want to go ( Zane was the guy with the beard doing the training in the video.
Like I said earlier, a lot of stuff was exaggerated for the film, people playing up for the camera such as the chop fest in the Radio Shack parking lot, but I know if these guys, they all have shoot jobs and most of them have families, which is why we don't go out on the road for shitty payoffs like a pat on the ass and a slice of pizza, like so many guys do, and these guys are folks I'm proud to call my brothers.
Finally, and I know because I'm now involved in the financial end and planning the shows with Jeff ( Outlaw, our owner ), and Solar (NOT gay, a happily married man with a child ), I know that we make book every single show, twice a month every single month, and have been going for 15 years non stop, how many small feds can say that?

I'm surprised Zane is the one who went on to higher-level indies and not Gabe.  He must have improved, I hope.  You could tell Gave was going to rub people the wrong way with his attitude, but he seemed like he had potential.

That is actually quite impressive.
