The post about the Machines got me thinking about this.

I'm guessing every territory did their version of this angle. Some did it multiple times. Some wrestlers made a mini-career out of doing it multiple times.

How many examples can you think of?

Which ones, if any, stood out?

Just to clarify for my slow working brain today. You are asking for masked wrestler(s) angles where people knew which wrestler(s) were under the hood.

Exactly.

Any angle based around a known wrestler in a promotion adopting a masked persona.

Hulk as Mr. America would be one. JYD as Stagger Lee, Brody as Red River Jack.

Some are only one time deals. Like Chris Adams as the Masked Avenger, Bobby Jaggers as the Midnight Express, Malenko as Cyclope (sp).

Steamboat/Douglas were Dos Hombres.

Jimmy Valiant as Charlie Brown

Other one-off masked angles were Randy Savage as Mr. Madness and Rick Steiner as Mr. Pain.

Despite how obvious it was, was the audience supposed to be in on the fact that Doom was Reed and Simmons?  Or should that be filed with obvious guys under the mask, like Big Bubba Rogers as War Machine and Paul Diamond as Max Moon?

Doom was an interesting case. Both guys had already been in the area, but there was no angle that brought them together under masks, was there?

Pretty sure hardly anyone knew (or cared) War Machine was Rogers. Same with Diamond as Moon, or Kato.

In most of the other angles there was a reason for the mask. The wrestler was suspended. The wrestler wanted a shot at a certain opponent or title that he needed change his identity to get.

Doom was closer to Jack Victory all of a sudden becoming Russian Assassin II.
