Best as I can tell by looking at results and lineups, Snuka turned heel in July of 1979. Maybe one of the longtime Crockett fans can give you the details.

It was extremely subtle and I think was done in pieces at each town. I remember the version I saw in Asheville on July 22, 1979. It was a tag match with Rufus R Jones vs Swede Hanson & Sgt Jacques Goulet. Snuka just attacked Rufus for no reason and abandoned him during the match. I remember when Snuka came in the ring noticing he had on boots for the first time I had ever seen them. Im sure other variations of this were done in other towns. I remember reading an account of at least one similar version in another regular stop but cant recall off hand how that one went. There wasnt really a TURN so to speak though at least not that I can recall.
