Red's one of those guys where I had the obituary and photo gallery ready for a while.

On a personal note, he was a great guy, always fun to talk to.

Its like Oliver has an obituary filled with the dead for people who arent even dead yet. Does he take pointers from the Dead pool?

Either way, RIP old goat. You were kinda cool for a pro wres fighter.

One of my personal favorites from way back when.  I was fortunate to see him live several times and he was always great.  RIP

It's actually decent journalistic practice to get obits done ahead of time.

As for the Dead Pool, I have never made any picks, maybe because I find it far more morbid than writing up an obit, or a celebration of life, ahead of time.

Weird that.

I saw him for a few years in Omaha. He was in the main event of the first live card I went to on August 29, 1970. A consummate professional both in and out of the ring.

All my meetings with Red were positive experiences.  One of the first to greet me at CAC years ago and one guy who had tons of stories but didn't brag about himself; he was more interested in meeting people and learning about them first.

Fine article and fitting tribute to a genuinely nice guy.

Didn't Paul Jones claim that Red Bastien sent the Mighty Wilbur to him?

if you ever met Red and spent any time talking with him you'd come away with a new friend.  Red was one of the nicest men I have ever met.  My thoughts go out to his family and friends.  Goodbye Red, RIP
