From Wrestlezone. The "True Or False" question refers to Abraham Lincoln having been professional wrestling champion. Probably wasn't "worked" way back when but still ....

Though The National Wrestling Alliance (which is the father of World Championship Wrestling) name itself did not come into existance until it was officially created in 1948. New information has shown that the NWA's roots far surpassed that. All the way to the early 19th Century. Where the first organized wrestling organization existed in Louisiana. Abraham Lincoln the 16th President of the United States was one of the earliest champions.

Certain werkers would have you believe that Honest Abe was just putting John Wilkes Boothe over.

Bullshit.  First of all, Lincoln was an amateur wrestler.  Secondly, the formation of the NWA in 1948 has been thoroughly researched and documented and it's a completely separate entity to anything that came before it, including the sanctioning body for Hackenschmidt and all those guys in 1904, so to extend the history before that is completely kayfabe.

Are you saying that Abraham Lincoln was not a former NWA World's Heavyweight Champion?

He would have been, but he refused to remove his stove pipe hat.

Bob Geigel had no choice but to return the belt to Stephen Douglas.

EDIT: For some reason, I called him Stephen Arnold.

The South were the original NWO and Lincoln proudly led the forces of WCW, uh the North, against them.  Or something like that.  I believe the blow-off to that feud was the infamous slave-on-a-pole match, which seems politically incorrect today but back then boycotters hadn't been invented yet so it was OK.

U.S. Grant was Lincoln's own personal Goldberg.

Originally, it was supposed to be a "Dusty finish" with John Wilkes Booth but they had heat beforehand and things got out of hand somewhat.

The old saw "Lincoln was a former NWA champ" has been around forever. I think it was alluded to in the movie The Wrestler, and was mentioned in Pro Wrestling USA's Mat Wars.
