I was really excited to see the NWA/AWA supershow that was uploaded Christmas. WOW. What a disappointment. Complete waste of 2.5 hours.

Anyone under WWE contract at any level, going back to guys in developmental in OVW, have always been able to request copies of any match from the WWE archives. I wonder if some of the hidden gems are these matches.

The Roode-Ibushi match is really random. I didn’t remember that Ibushi did NXT house shows for the very short period of time he was around for the CWC. The fans are super into this match and chant “This is awesome” before it even starts and “Fighf Forerver” towards the end. It’s very solid 20-minute match with Roode predictably going over clean, but Ibushi hit all his trademark NJPW moves, even the Last Ride powerbomb.

It was his only house show appearance. Very old school, having a match in Los Angeles while travelling from the Florida territory to Japan.

Has WWE Network never shown the complete Showdown at Shea card? I remember when this hit Classics on Demand, how awesome it was to finally get it. And they replayed it a few years later I think. So I thought it was strange to see this Inoki match here when I thought the whole card should be up. I wonder if they are wiping it clean of the overdubbed commentary which I think may have been Cole and Foley, or possibly Josh Matthews and Foley.

Following the first NXT UK Takeover, WWE Network will air a documentary on Nigel McGuinness. I’m unclear if this is the existing independent doc produced a few years ago (which was excellent) or if WWE has produced their own. I’m guessing the latter.  The last one was absolutely heart-breaking as McGuinness appeared near-suicidal over his career-ending injury and the way that he finally was about to get a WWE contract only to fail the medical and have it all taken away. At least we know now that McGuinness’ story has a happy ending in WWE, even if it’s not as a wrestler.

Jerry Lawler and Greg Gagne vs. Riki Choshu and Mr. Saito is from an AWA Las Vegas taping and aired on the ESPN show as well as possibly in syndication too. Choshu was in his prime and was much admired by the hardcore fans who looked to Japan for action oriented matches at a time when the WWF was really bad and JCP was getting stale. Dave Meltzer is visible at ringside during the match. Choshu was decent, but not spectacular. It seemed like the bout was a way for him and Saito to write off their vacations to the U.S. and neither was going all out.

WWE announced this afternoon that they will hold the first-ever "Worlds Collide" tournament over the Royal Rumble AXXESS events with talents from WWE NXT, 205 Live and NXT UK all competing. The idea is that fans attending will get to see cross-brand matches that they normally would not be able to see. The tournament will be taped for a future WWE Network special.

WWE has announced the following competitors will be involved in the tournament:

Representing NXT: Adam Cole, The Velveteen Dream, Dominik Dijakovic, Keith Lee, and Heavy Machiney's Otis Dozovic.

Representing NXT UK: Mark Andrews, Tyler Bate, Travis Banks, Jordan Devlin and Zack Gibson.

Representing 205 Live: Cedric Alexander, Humberto Carrillo (who has not debuted for the brand yet), Tony Nese, Drew Gulak and TJP.

As previously reported on PWInsider.com, WWE trademarked the "Worlds Collide" name on 1/3.

Carrillo, who's 205 Live debut was spoiled by the announcement, is the former Ultimo Ninja in Mexico. There is an open challenge with Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy on next week's episode of 205 Live, so it could be that's where Carrillo will debut.

The first-ever Royal Rumble AXXESS is set for the Phoenix Convention Center from 1/25-1/27

Wonder if they will dust off the Powerman 5000 song that they used for Smackdown vs Raw 2008 video game.
