bpickering wrote: WWE announced this afternoon that they will hold the first-ever "Worlds Collide" tournament over the Royal Rumble AXXESS events with talents from WWE NXT, 205 Live and NXT UK all competing. The idea is that fans attending will get to see cross-brand matches that they normally would not be able to see. The tournament will be taped for a future WWE Network special. This sounds awesome but I wish they would've had it be live in an arena like a Takeover show instead of taped from AXXESS. This Monday following Raw, it will be the WWE Network Original Special "Let Me Tell You Something Gene." The preview for the special notes, "WWE Superstars and Legends celebrate the life and legacy of one of sports entertainment's most beloved personalities, 'Mean' Gene Okerlund."

Although it doesn't debut on the live stream for another 20 minutes, the Nigel McGuinness documentary is already available to stream

Haven’t seen UK Takeover yet but just watched the Nigel doc and it’s damn good. Lots of footage from Nigel’s original self-financed doc, as well as ROH and TNA. Good stuff and so much more uplifting than the original doc, which was heart-breaking to watch and where I really thought Nigel could be a suicide risk. It’s great to see him in a better place and with a baby now and no longer bitter about how his career ended. In a lot of ways WWE basically made the sequel to the original doc and they should get the rights to that and upload it as well. As an aside, it never ceases to amaze me how honest Daniel Bryan is and how willing WWE seems to be to air some of Bryan’s less flattering interviews about them. In this doc, Bryan comes right out and says that he never wanted to be in WWE, he liked the indies more, but he got to an age where he needed to make money so he took it (his point was in comparison to Nigel who always dreamed about wrestling in WWE and deserved to be there more). Pretty amazing that quote saw the light of day. Last edited on Sat Jan 12th, 2019 10:28 pm by srossi ____________________ This thread was great before AA ruined it. |

pwinsider.com Since the advent of the WWE Network's launch in February 2014, the streaming service's infrastructure has been handled by BAMTech, now called Disney Streaming Services, but that ended with an announcement today that WWE will be shifting its product over to Endeavor Streaming. The news was first reported today by entertainment trade publication Variety. "Endeavor Streaming’s best-in-class technology enables us to offer more features, elevate the user experience and provides us even more opportunity to delight our fans around the world,” WWE chairman/CEO Vince McMahon said in a statement to Variety. Endeavor Streaming’s clients also include the NFL, NBA, Euroleague, Univision, Sportsnet, Sky Sports, MSG, National Geographic, and Big Ten Network. Endeavor represents WWE as a client for a number of different deals and they officially announced the launch of Endeavor Streaming today. There is no word when the WWE Network will shift over to Endeavor or if there will be any noticeable change for WWE Network subscribers during the transition.

So I'm not at all surprised to see this because they obviously updated the graphic knowing that WWE was moving. I was just down there about three weeks ago, and the elevator door wrap looked brand new.

I'm too lazy to go back and look at every post in this thread to see if it's been discussed already, but April 1992 is when they officially changed it from Superstars of Wrestling to just Superstars because some other promoter claimed ownership of that trademark and sued them. They'd have to do a lot of work editing if they were going to start from the very beginning in 1986.

Help jog my memory, but was Superstars the new version of Championship Wrestling like Wrestling Challenge was the new version of All-Star Wrestling?

During the Wild West days of eBay before there were any copyright rules (or WWF lawyers checking the site) I used to make a fortune selling 6 hour blocks of Superstars from 1986 on VHS. On a good auction, one tape could easily go for $60-$80 and I kept running off copy after copy for months. I remember checking my auctions on 9/11 actually. We will probably see the Superstars of Wrestling shows from before 1992 eventually. It will be a matter of the WWE either putting this off until it gets low on classic content and it becomes more cost effective, and possibly easier technologically, to do the mass editing or when they go to the rights holder of Superstars of Wrestling and make him a good offer to get those rights off his hands or lease the rights. I can't imagine Albert Patterson and the WWA make any real money off of Superstars of Wrestling these days. Throwing the guy a sum he can live with would make sense. They could also wait until he either lets the rights lapse, however unlikely, or until he dies (he's probably in his early 70s) when the rights might open up or his heirs might be up for making a deal.
