Held on 4/19/86, the tournament took place at the Superdome in New Orleans, promoted by Jim Crockett Promotions, featuring 24 teams competing over two events, a matinee for the opening rounds and an evening event for the finals.

The competing teams:

Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard
Giant Baba and Tiger Mask
The Barbarian and Baron von Raschke
The Batten Twins (Bart and Brad Batten)
Black Bart and Jimmy Garvin
Dino Bravo and Rick Martel
Bill Dundee and Buddy Landel
The Fabulous Ones
The Fantastics
Manny Fernandez and Jimmy Valiant
Ronnie Garvin and Magnum T.A.
Chavo and Hector Guerrero
Sam Houston and Nelson Royal
The Italian Stallion and Koko Ware
Bobby Jaggers and Mike Miller
Wahoo McDaniel and Mark Youngblood
The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton)
D.J. Peterson and Brett Wayne
The Road Warriors
The Rock 'n' Roll Express
Ivan and Nikita Koloff
Buzz Sawyer and Rick Steiner
The Sheepherders
Terry Taylor and Steve Williams

The event also featured NWA World Champion Ric Flair vs. Dusty Rhodes and Mid-South Wrestling Champion Hacksaw Duggan vs. Dick Slater.

Crockett Promotions would hold two additional Crockett Cup tournaments in the years to follow before shutting down and being sold to Turner Broadcasting, which did not continue the annual tradition in WCW.

With the NWA itself now under the ownership of Billy Corgan, the Crockett Cup was revived earlier this year as a PPV event in conjunction with Ring of Honor, won by Villain Enterprises. That victory also earned them the NWA Tag Team titles.

The Event starts with Match #6 of the first round out of the 8 first round matches.  The Fabulous ones vs the Fantastics,
Missing a few 2nd round matches

Were the missing 1986 Crockett Cup matches not recorded or is there known to be an issue of the tapes either being damaged, destroyed or lost?

WWENetworkNews.com is reporting the following material will be this week's WWE Network Hidden Gems, including extremely rare footage from the old Amarillo territory featuring the Funk family:

NWA Western States 02/01/1971 – Father Knows Best [Duration: 06:42]
The patriarch of the Funk wrestling family, Dory Funk Sr., imparts some fatherly wisdom in this training session with Dory Jr. and Terry.

The WWE Network has added the Terry Funk Tribute banquet presented the night before ECW's Barely Legal in April 1997 in Philadelphia to the Hidden Gems area.

I just watched the Flair vs. Rich Omni show that is on the network. I actually enjoy no commentary honestly. Going to look at the 1st Crockett Cup next.

Digging into Crockett Cup 86 now. Never dreamed I would get to see so much of the card. After this I need to continue with Mid-South and Mid-Atlantic as I progress towards the mid-80s.

This week's Hidden Gems presentation is two cards from the '86 Great American Bash tour, the 7/5/86 Charlotte event headlined by the Ric Flair-Ricky Morton cage match, and the 7/26/86 Greensboro event headlined by Ric Flair-Dusty Rhodes. Each runs just a little under 3 hours.

That summer of ‘86 period is super fun to watch. Dusty did hotshot the fuck out of things and it got stale by early ‘87.
