File this in the random crap to watch folder when you have a chance.  I was watching the May 2, 1987 World Championship Wrestling show last night.  About 15 minutes in, there’s a Luger squash match that completely goes off the rails.  He’s working a pretty decent sized dude (bodybuilder type, super thick).  Luger goes for a power slam and completely flubs it and ends up setting the guy down but Crockett calls it a “back breaker”. Then he goes for the torture rack and loses his balance and falls and drops the dude into the ropes. Total train wreck and he just covers the guy at that point for the pin.  No replay.  Straight to commercial.

Some of the best ones are:

November To Remember '95
Gangsta's Paradise
Return Of The Funker
Hostile City Showdown '95 and '96
Big Ass Extreme Bash
Matter Of Respect
Hardcore Heaven '96
The Night The Line Was Crossed

I know I'm forgetting some. Pretty much everything from late 1994-early 1997 was good. Their weekly TV was even better though.

WWEnetworknews.com

As most of our readers will be aware by now, the WWE Network recently uploaded 12 ECW supershows to the company’s PPV section. Many people were understandably upset by a distinct lack of content from the territory’s earliest days, with the chosen events beginning in February 1994. Well, Hidden Gems is set to come to the rescue once again as three rare releases (totaling well over 2 hours running time combined) from 1992 are primed for upload tomorrow!

The first two are actually a pair, as “The Best of ECW 1992” volumes 1 and 2 kick things off. As best I can tell, these volumes are exceedingly rare and perhaps the very first home video releases for the company. Therefore, these are quite the find from the gem curators and a tremendous way to get a glimpse of the embryonic stages of what would become a trailblazing entity.

Speaking of great finds, we’re not done yet. Also set for tomorrow is one of several fabled TV pilots for the hardcore fed. Dated 11/28/1992, this episode was taped a good 4+ months before what would become known as Hardcore TV would finally air. Obviously, this pilot has been floating about in tape trading circles for years but it’ll still be rare for the vast majority who believed ECW’s TV history began in April 1993.

Finally, here are the full details (including official synopses) for all 3 videos set to be uploaded to the “WWE Hidden Gems” category within the Vault section tomorrow:

07/14/1992 – The Best of ECW 1992 Volume 1 [Duration: 50:54]
Witness ECW get its start in a sports bar in Philadelphia before becoming one of the most influential wrestling organizations of all time.

10/24/1992 – The Best of ECW 1992 Volume 2 [Duration: 53:13]
Ivan Koloff, Sal Bellomo, The Sandman and more set the tone for the mayhem that would occur over the next decade in ECW.

11/28/1992 – ECW TV Pilot [Duration: 43:34]
The Sandman, The Super Destroyers and King Kahlua compete in this ECW television pilot from the fall of 1992.

I'm done with the shitty house show "specials".  Just way too much content diluting an already unwatchable product.  They need to come to their senses and just stop.  This is like when "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" was put on TV 7 nights a week and then was cancelled months later because everyone got so sick of it.

The problems with these extra cards is that either nothing happens on them, and people complain they are pointless, or they are included in the story canon, and people complain there is too much to follow. The main problem is just that the main roster is such a mess at the moment. If this was a televised NXT house show, or an EVOLVE show, no one would be complaning.

If this was a televised NXT or EVOLVE show, it would also be good.  WWE house shows aren't, and even the Saudi Arabia shows, outside of the big names brought in, play out like house show matches in practice.

That was my point. I can watch all the good wrestling you want to throw at me. But I avoid most of the main roster stuff, because there is very little good, and what isn't bad is boring.

WWE Network News is reporting today's WWE Network "Hidden Gem" selection for today is the April 19, 1985 Pro Wrestling USA Show from East Rutherford, New Jersey at the Meadowlands. The description reads as follows:

Buck Zumhofe vs. Steve Regal.
Larry Sharpe vs. Bobby Duncum.
The Samoans vs. Tom Zenk and Steve Olsonoski.
Kendo Nagasaki vs. Jim Duggan.

The video / audio has changed quality with the launch of Network 2.0. One step forward and one step back.

Old specs (Everything but live stream):

Video: H.264 1080p 30fps 7000kbps
Audio: AAC 192kbps

New specs (Everything but live stream):

Video: H.264 720p 30fps 4500kbps
Audio: AAC 128kbps

The live stream also jumped in quality, but it is slightly less quality than the non-live stuff that gets uploaded later on.

The problem is that all 11,000 videos seem to have botched mono audio. Meaning that both the left and right audio are outputting the exact same thing. The original Network had the same problem when it launched but they fixed the issue quickly later on and everything added after that was in proper stereo. However, they never went back and fixed what they launched with which was in mono. Back then, they had about 1000 or so videos affected by this bug, now they have about 110000 videos. Will they fix upcoming videos? Probably. Will they fix everything that's already on WWE Network? Who knows.
