WWE Network has been adding new episodes of World Class Championship Wrestling in an effort to fill gaps that exist in the current run of episodes. WWE has at times sought out private collectors to track down content that was missing from the actual library they acquired.

If someone has uploaded something to YouTube that WWE "owns" but doesn't actually have footage of, can they just take the footage? Would they have to pay for it?

Landy I think can answer this from experience...They got/took footage of Andre vs. Bret in Europe from him IIRC and used it someplace on the network or in something of theirs.
Yeah they downloaded my YouTube video of that match for the Bret Hart DVD that was released in 2013. They didn’t contact me privately about it, if they had I could have sent them a higher quality version instead of the YouTube video but their loss. They also took a Prime Time episode I had on there as their copy must have been bad (1/23/89 on the Network you’ll notice a drop in quality during the show) but again they didn’t contact me and just used the YouTube download

But do they still own the rights, even if they don't have their own copy?

Seems kind of backwards on their part. I mean, if they ask you for a cleaner copy and you refuse, would they not just have your YT channel taken down or threaten action of some sort?

Just seems like a no brainer to contact you or at least try in that case. Weird.

I am surprised all of you are questioning this. I don't have any facts but I would bet that if you uploaded a WWE video to Youtube and they reached out to you to get a copy, your first thought would be "those fuckers are trying to set me up", and you'd immediately banish them to your spam folder.

This actually solves a mystery.  Or resident dvd guy here could not for the life of him find his copy of the Classics on Demand 1/23/89 episode of Prime Time a few months ago when I was working with him on something, but he told me he had the original broadcast episode instead.  I have not gotten around to watching it yet, but this makes sense now.

Thanks.
Hopefully, we will get updates on what they are showing.

4 years ago to day the network began...Still worth the money.

Had it since day 1.

I got it day 1 (I actually started this thread) and while there's been a few great things pop up over the years, overall it's been a HUGE disappointment in terms of classic (pre-1985) footage.  WWE 24/7 Classics on Demand was better.  In fact, most of what has been uploaded to the Network in terms of classic footage was already shown on WWE 24/7 Classics on Demand and there's still stuff that Classics on Demand aired that haven't appeared on the Network yet.  I hope that changes.  The rumored March drop of WWF/WWWF All Star Wrestling would be a big improvement but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

Another complaint I have about WWE Network is the technical one. Although I guess most people don't care because they broadcast in pseudo0HD (720p), they really took two shortcuts on the quality taht I don't like. First of all, pretty much every classic show I have checked is being broadcast in MONO sound when it should be in stereo. The service launched like this and I thought it was an error but even though I pointed it out to them on every available social media platform, they're still doing it 4 years later. The other issue is that the footage is being shown in 30p. The original footage was 60i. If it can't be streamed interlaced like it was originally shot, it should be streamed at 60p not 30p. Other sports streaming services do that.

We have reason to believe that the next drop to the WWE Network Vault will indeed be All-Star Wrestling, the premier TV show for the WWWF in the 1970’s and early 80’s! The expected date range is 1976 through 1979. If WWE holds true to adding 70 or so hours of archival content per month, this would suggest a scattered selection spread over the 4 years. This would make sense, considering the well-known state of disrepair for a lot of wrestling footage prior to the early 80’s. Still, this release should not be dismissed, as it will, in fact, be the earliest bulk release of WWE TV footage ever seen. The release date for these episodes will be Monday, March 5th.

What can we expect to see? Likely parts of the World Championship reigns of Bruno Sammartino, “Superstar” Billy Graham and Bob Backlund. Gorilla Monsoon will undoubtedly be featured. In fact, many careers that are barely touched by the vault as it stands now will finally get some much-needed spotlight. So, while what seems to be an incomplete representation of 4 years is not ideal, there will certainly be plenty for the true history buffs to sink their teeth into. S

As previously reported on PWInsider.com, the WWE Network's Vault section will be adding WWWF All-Star Wrestling next month, the first time that weekly series has been seen in decades. We are told 92 episodes total are planned to be uploaded the first week of March.

Collections for March are planned to be based around Chris Jericho and Becky Lynch.

PWInsider.com has also confirmed that the Network's current plan for additional vintage material is to add WCW Saturday Night episodes in April and in May, to upload all remaining episodes of Mid-Atlantic Wrestling TV.

Current plans for April Collections call for for them to be built around Ted DiBiase Sr. and Finn Balor.
