Lots of room for Prichard to hang himself there.  We'll see how much rope WWE gives him.  The Savage stories alone could get him kicked off the Network, let alone the Hogan stuff.

I just watched this and they spent the last 2 minutes talking about the "salacious rumors" of Vince disagreeing with one of "Savage's personal relationships" but they never actually came out and said it.  So what was the point of bringing it up if they couldn't talk about it?  I am shocked it was even alluded to.  For the record, Prichard says those rumors are complete bullshit.

Anyway, this was part of a discussion on why Savage's name couldn't even be mentioned in front of Vince following his departure in 1994, which Prichard disputes and reveals that Vince and Savage came to an agreement in principle on his return in 1997 when Savage's lawyer made some outrageous demands at the end and Vince got pissed and pulled the whole deal off the table.  Some quick research reveals that Savage's contract with WCW expired in November 1996 and he was off TV until he returned to WCW in January 1997, so this would've happened at that time.  I never knew Savage was that close to returning to the WWF in early '97.

There was a lot of internet talk circa late 1996 and early 1997 about Savage making a WWF return. There were mystery spots open at the Survivor Series and Royal Rumble that a lot of people saw as Savage's opportunities to return with a bang. Keep in mind that this was during the wild west era of the pro wrestling internet scene when there were lots of news items and rumors floating around of varying validity. How much of that was what people wanted getting extrapolated into rumors and news items or people just making things up can't be entirely measured.

- In the early November 1996 Observers, the end of Savage's WCW deal was acknowledged.

- In the 11/25/96 Observer, Dave Meltzer noted that the WWF and Randy Savage had discussions about him coming back, but the WWF basically wanted to it both ways. It wanted Randy Savage on a 3 to 5 year deal, but didn't like his asking price for a guarantee at that length of time and didn't want to bring him in, use him on top for a high price, and see him go back to WCW after potentially just a year.

- In the 12/23/96 Observer, after a few weeks with no mention of Savage, Dave noted that there were some mentions of Savage on Nitro which suggested he was going back. He was said to be unhappy with WCW's offer, but liked it better than what the WWF offered.

- In the 1/6/97 edition, Dave wrote that Savage was expected back in WCW still, but nothing had been signed and he was still unhappy about the offer.

- For 1/13/97, a recap of Live Wire included a bit about a caller asking Jim Ross about Savage coming back with JR responding that the WWF didn't want any wrestlers of his (JR's) age. Meanwhile, Bischoff made some comments about Savage needing to find an inferior company to join, implying he wasn't welcome in WCW. Eric was prone at the time to making various worked shoot comments to mess with fans and people on the WCW payroll.

- The 1/27/97 Observer recapped Randy Savage returning to Nitro the previous Monday. He had a sit down strike until Sting came to the ring, and they left together, apparently forming an alliance.

- The 2/4/97 edition noted that Sting was watching the ring from afar with Savage alongside him.

- The 2/17/97 recapped an angle in which Sting and Savage seemed to have recruited the newly babyface turned DDP to their anti-NWO coalition.

- The 2/24/97 edition noted that Sting and Savage were still together, watching the ring from the rafter or wherever although Dave said he expected Savage to go heel and feud with DDP although he didn't state why.

- The 3/3/97 edition recapped Savage coming to the ring with Sting to watch during the Super Brawl main event pitting Hogan vs. Piper. Then he stayed when Sting left and went heel, helping Hogan win.

I threw in the stuff about the Savage association with Sting and subsequent heel turn because there was literally nothing happening on screen that remotely suggested that was coming, despite Dave's throwaway remark. Elizabeth had been portrayed as essentially being held hostage by the NWO. Then Savage turned and he was "given" Liz as what amounted to a gift after joining the NWO himself. It seemed like he might be undercover for a week or so, helping Sting and rescuing Elizabeth. Then he was suddenly an enthusiastic NWO member and Liz, who heretofore looked sad and like a deer in the headlights, just as suddenly went bitch heel and happy to be in the NWO as a Savage and Elizabeth vs. Diamond Dallas Page and Kimberly feud got going. This was all a very strange time for WCW's booking as it looked like the advent of Raw going live for two hours and starting the Raw Is War format made Bischoff worried.

Was at that Nitro in January 1997 when Savage did the sit-down to start the show at the United Center in Chicago.  Place went apeshit.  Then Sting came down from the rafters in front of all of the Bulls championship banners, and things went crazy.

On this week's Something Else to Wrestle With, Bruce Prichard explained why WWE always say "medical facility" instead of "hospital" and it made perfect sense! Something I'd been wondering about for years.

I've never even noticed that before, and if I was the type of moron who would call hospitals checking on the condition of wrestlers I don't think this very slight change in terminology would stop me.

The Mickie James collection being added today included a couple of 2004 Alexis Laree matches from OVW and a fair number of interview segments with James about her career. Much better than the usual fare of just throwing up matches that are all available already. Sadly for Tony Atlas, her foot fetish videos don't seem to a part of this collection.

It also looks like the versions of Heat being uploaded are the pre-PPV versions rather than the "International" versions for those weeks. Obviously nothing significant ever happened on those International shows, but for the sake of completion and any possible hidden gems, those would have been nice to see and would be "new content" for US viewers.

Prichard's podcast this week is about Ted DiBiase.

Sad for all of us, I think.

The latest Table for 3 with Shane McMahon, AJ Styles and Kurt Angle features footage from TNA Hard Justice 2008. Really something I didn't expect to see. Then there's an add for the GWN app at the end of the show.

As a side note, I'd happily pay $15 a month if they folded the GWN into the WWE Network.

The rumor is that NBC Universal is going to triple WWE's rights' fees.  It's a huge score for them.

PWInsider:

The WWE Network began uploading 1983 TV episodes of Mid-South Wrestling over the last few hours.

PWInsider.com previously reported that WWE planned to add 76 new episodes of the series to the Vault section of the streaming service for June, so it appears they are starting early.

Created in 1979 by Bill Watts, Mid-South ran the Gulf Coast territory through the mid-1980s when it was purchased by Jim Crockett Promotions. The 1983 episodes will feature Hacksaw Duggan, Steve Williams, Kamala, Ted DiBiase, Matt Borne, Mr. Wrestling II, Gino Hernandez, The Great Kabuki, Andre the Giant, Junkyard Dog, a rookie Marty Lunde (who would go on to become Arn Anderson) and more.
