Today marks the 52 anniversary of the day when the greatest Italian who ever lived proved to the world that he wasn't just another pretty face by beating either Buddy Rogers or Buddy Rogers brother to take the WWWF strap. Of course the world would change forever just a little past 6 months later in November of 1963 when Buddy would retire from pro wrestling but that's a whole other thread.
May 17, 1963  -  New York, NY - Madison Square Garden
Magnificent Maurice over Karl Steif  9:53
Pedro Morales over Willie Bath 9:58
Pat Barrett beat Gordo Chihuahua  10:11
Johnny Barend beat Tim Woods 11:14
Hans Mortier over Great Scott  8:29
Fabulous Kangaroos over Pete Sanchez (sub. Ed Carpentier) & Vittorio Apollo 1-0 30:00
U.S. Tag Team Title Match:
Skull Murphy & Brute Bernard drew Bobo Brazil & Dory Dixon 18:00 (curfew)

What happened after Buddy/Buddys brother lost the WWWE title? This sounds like the makings of a great story.

I know a guy who can tell you all about it, but it's past his bedtime. Maybe tomorrow.

Are you fucking with me, or is there legit a "Gordo Chihuahua" that wrestled at MSG? If so, He's got one more match at the Mecca than Stinger does..

Haha...Gordo was a real, honest to goodness WWWF jobber. Hung around at least 3 years from what I know of him. He wrestled under some other names but I can't recall who.

In my opinion, Bruno Sammartino was / is the greatest champ in the companies history.
