Next match was Dingo Warrior vs. Jose Estrada. Hellwig using weird psychology in this one, as he does a press slam out of nowhere after working the arm for a few minutes and then goes to an arm drag and arm bar immediately afterwards. Very weird feel. Also, with no commentary, you can really hear the guys calling spots on this one.

Mega Powers vs. Hart Foundation and Honkytonk.

Oddly, crowd is super flat. Savage doesn't really have any intense segment with HTM. This match HAD to have occurred after SNME. Hogan gets the pin on Honky. Weird match. This came from the Von Braun Civic Center...looks like Fall '87.

Next match, Owen Hart vs. Barry Horowitz. This appears to have been from Spring 1988, a Challenge taping tryout match. Owen absolutely tore the house down. Every Owen Hart signature spot, he hit to perfection. He nailed a plancha through the ropes to the floor. The crowd was in awe and by the end was giving him a standing ovation. How Vince didn't sign him immediately after this is beyond me (I think he waited several months). Great match. Quality wasn't very good on the video though. This one looked blurry.

59 minutes unto the 8 hr set, and I'm going to call it a night. I'll try to do some more reviews tomorrow night.

Does the set have commentary over the matches from the period? I pre-ordered it from Amazon (for free when I applied for their in-store rewards card) and have yet to get it.

No commentary on any of the matches as far as I've seen.  I actually like it that way.  Gives it a raw arena feel.

That is a hilarious story about Best Buy.  I used to go there all the time like 10-15 years ago.  Now, not so much.  We should be having a viewing party lol!  Yes, the opening match had a few camera hic-ups.

Can't wait to hear everyone's response to the Savage-Andre title defense.

Yeah, this is great.  The workers tell the story.

Ok, that was weird.

Andre basically squashed Savage for a few minutes. Savage went out and got a chair and was DQ'd. Crowd was like, "WTF?"

I have to say, this era of Liz is her best. She looks amazing here. I forgot how hot she really was. I'd put her up against any of the Divas from the past 20 years.

Powers of Pain beat Demolition via countout in an absolute snoozefest after they stood around for five minutes and stalled like Larry Zbyzsco.  Brutal.

Big John Studd vs. Andre the Giant (two nights after WM5).  Yeah, it's as bad as you can imagine.
On to the next match.  Two duds in a row though.

Although there are lots of matches on this set that I was interested in, as soon as I saw this one I ordered the DVD right away.  Not because I expected it to be a great match, but because I was a fan of both Big John Studd and Andre the Giant and I remember being really excited as a kid in 1989 that they'd face off with Studd as the face and Andre as the heel.  However, the feud was quickly aborted and Studd left abruptly with Hillbilly Jim filling in for him in many of the towns (including Toronto my hometown).

This is one of those "collector" matches.

I recall Prichard saying one of the reasons BJS left shortly after was that Andre was being a little too stiff in the ring and taken no liberties. No evidence of that here, but I could never seriously get into BJS as a face after being such a dastardly heel - in this case with the previous runs against the face Andre. Just didn't work.

I don't totally believe Bruce on that as if Studd really wanted to wrestle he could have went to the NWA like the iron sheik and got paid to do nothing. I tend think we was just burned out or came back and didn't like what he saw and left.
