If you were a fan of TNA or Impact Wrestling, it's no more.

Just a few days before the company celebrates its 15th anniversary at the Slammiversary PPV, The Tenneseean is reporting the company will be going under the Global Force Wrestling banner going forward.

"We're a global brand," Jeff Jarrett explained to the newspaper. "We have partnerships in Mexico, Japan, other places. Collectively coming together, we've combined forces and basically the rebrand final touches happen (on Sunday) at 'Slammiversary.'"

Impact Wrestling, initially titled TNA for Total Nonstop Action, was formed in June 2002 by Jeff and Jerry Jarrett.    Several months into its run, Panda Energy became the majority owner.  It removed itself from ownership with Dixie Carter, the daughter of Panda Energy's Bob Carter, taking 100% of the ownership several years back.  After a flirtation with selling to Billy Corgan, Carter eventually sold the company to Anthem Media, which also owns the Fight Network in Canada.

Ed Nordholm explained in the article that the decision to change the name was due in part to all the bad publicity the TNA/Impact Wrestling name has garnered in recent years as well as potential marketing partners being down on the "TNA" initials due to the obvious double entrendre involved.

The plan going forward, according to Nordholm, is to "export" GFW content to different international broadcast partners and work with those partners to create localized wrestling content with talents native to that area while also using the Fight Network's App as a hub for all of that content online.

According to the article, the company will remain headquartered in Nashville.

I love his this story breaks right before their only PPV of the year, thus spoiling the outcome of the title vs. title main event. And TNA/Impact has a bad name, but what exactly does GFW have? It's been mocked mercilessly already by wrestling fans. Jarrett must give great blow jobs or something. I just don't know how he pulls this off.

Also, 2 re-brandings in 3 months must be a new record.

I wonder if Sam Muchnick ever used the term "brand".

Ask Larry Matysick what brand of condoms Muchnick preferred. I guarantee you he's intimately familiar.

They could have run a pretty decent invasion angle with GFW killing off Impact in storyline, but they've chosen to do it in the "news" because that is where some people think wrestling actually happens now, and the ring is just an inconvenience.

Exactly. The big announcement that Don West was coming back to announce Slammiversary was made during a radio interview and touched on for 5 seconds on TV. I understand they have no mainstream audience at this point, but you have to at least try to push your product on your own show. There MIGHT be 5 casual fans who don't want to follow what you're doing on redneck radio and actually just watch your show.

I see Hermie Sadler is gonna be at Slammiversary. Nothing says "global" like NASCAR.

Hermie Sadler was a second-rate NASCAR driver. Impact/TNA/NWATNA/Global Force Wrestling/Global Gold is a second-rate rasslin company. It is a perfect match if you asked me.

Didn't see it but reports that the PPV was very good and freshest since the take over.

Huh? The point is that NASCAR is a only popular in redneck 'Murica. He could be the greatest NASCARball player in the world, and no one outside of the USA would have a clue who he was. Clearly redneck Jeff Jarrett loves Sadler, since he was on the first TNA episode, and a few others after that. I guess Jarrett gave him a great deal on gold to get him to appear.

If Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jr., Danica, Kevin Harvick or Kyle Busch showed up, a large percentage of sports fans outside of American would know who they are or would have heard of them. Hermie Sadler is a guy who never had success in the Cup series. He never had success in the secondary series. Two wins over his career and both of those was in the Busch (second-tier) series.

My guess is he's helped to finance TNA and Global Force over the years in some way, which is why Jarrett remains friendly with him.

Believe me, no one outside the US has a clue who the fuck Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jr., Danica, Kevin Harvick or Kyle Busch are. No one cares, either.

Are you trying to tell me that people outside the U.S. do not know who these global sports stars are?

I mean ESPN's World Fame 100 list has Dale Jr. at No. 69, but no one knows who these people are.

Surely, random soccer star Rodriguez is more well known worldwide.

They're not global sports stars. No one watched NASCAR outside of the US. No watches ESPN outside of the US. That list is BS. Unless you actively follow the sport, "the majority of sports fans" know and care zero about American sports. The average US sports fans probably knows way more soccer players than a European sports fan would know US sports stars.

Sorry, but no one else cares about NASCAR.
