That's the biggest problem is that with the glut of really solid indy talent out there, Corgan is staying committed to Storm and even the list of challengers are pathetic.  I think it's just Corgan's old school mentality and trying to keep the NWA on brand with a certain type of style.  If I was him, maybe I'd go out and pitch a Ricochet or a Jeff Cobb or someone like that and see if he wants to become the cornerstone of the company.  A few months ago when he was available, Kyle O'Reilly would've made such an awesome modern-day NWA champ.  For some, that might be more attractive than being just a cog in the NXT/WWE wheel.  There are talented guys available, especially with LU contracts recently expired and Impact basically not existing in any real way anymore (especially when it comes to contracts).  But I kinda see Corgan's point about not wanting to just become another flippy indy company.

The good thing about Storm (for Corgan) is that he isn't worth anything in the wrestling world. That means that Storm will do whatever Corgan wants, wherever he wants (as long as it's not a school night). He doesn't have to worry about his champion being booked on other shows or being on tour.

Another slow, sloppy match with a post-match beating done in slow motion.

Hahaha. They had a tiny ladder to go with the tiny ring. It looks like they are playing with toys, and makes Jocephus' gut look massive. I like what they are trying to do, but they need to rethink the visuals.

Another thing is this: has anyone that states that they are "going back to the roots of wrestling" ever ended up having it work out? What are the roots and the good old days anyway? Hulk Hogan roots? Ric Flair roots? Thez roots? Gotch roots? The Stecher-Craddock match from 1920 roots? Attitude Era and ECW roots? Everyone has their own opinion on when wrestling was good and jumped the shark. I've seen kids comment on YouTube videos with "2008....this is when wrestling was good."

For me, the "good ole days" were probably in the late 70s early 80s, when the territories were still around and before everything became so overscripted and wrestlers were given microphones....but that's just my opinion.

In this match, Storm vs. Jocephus, neither wrestler appears to match the athleticism of todays high-flyers, but I can appreciate the old-school feel. But, as a main event matchup? Not so hot.

If the NWA is trying to be different they should at least follow the roots that lead them back to the mid 80’s. That will get them to a cartoony product without t and a, little to no cussing and lots of steroids.

Reading through old newspapers, there are plenty examples of letters to the editor in the early 1950s complaining about the new era of showmanship and wrestling on television, waxing lyrical to the "good old days" of the 1930s.

I guess SMW was a semi-successful "retro" promotion, but Cornette was promoting to hillbillies who were 20 years behind the times, so it was probably state-of-the-art to them. Most "wrestling as we liked it" promotions are like Izzy Slapowitz' current effort on YouTube with the animated corpse of Ronnie Garvin on color commentary.

You can't even bring back the old wrestlers for some nostalgia spots anymore, because most of them are dead now.

Nick Aldis just won the NWA World Championship from Tim Storm at The CZW show.
