Hogan wasn't the star.

The Wicker Man. The original Edward Woodward film. Had Ian Campbell as the massive Oak.

Kes. Brian Glover as sadistic schoolteacher. Hitherto he had wrestled as Frenchman Leon Arras. Big kayfabe breaker.

Pat Roach was obviously in a good many films, but probably the best was Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange.

I always liked Hell Comes To Frog Towm (Piper). Even had a little nudity in it.

The Harder They Fall had Tarzan Mike AKA Mike Lane as the wrestler opposite Humphrey Bogart.

Best movie with a wrestler as the main star: They Live
Best movie with a wrestler in a prominent supporting role: The Princess Bride

I'm not even going to entertain discussion about those two.

The Rock has made some decent Hollywood blockbusters, but they are all just slick popcorn bullshit. Fun, but instantly forgettable. He is, however, the best actor who started life a pro wrestler.

As for supporting roles... Guardians of the Galaxy, Predator, Running Man, Magic Mike, Ed Wood, Warrior, Roadhouse

I'm not going to go into movies that include wrestlers who play wrestlers (an exception for George Steele in Ed Wood), or the wrestler/actors from the 1950s or very minor cameo roles.

Dave Bautista really stepped in shit to get that role as Drax.  As the story goes, they wanted a big muscular guy for the role, and he auditioned, and they gave him the job because they thought that if his work ethic was 50% of Rock's as far as promoting and appearances go, then they've struck cheap gold.  And they were right because Bautista promotes the shit out of the Guardians franchise.  He tried for so long and got nothing worthwhile, now he can be Drax forever and draw money with it regardless of how long the franchise lasts.

Yeah, and he's also really good in the role though.  It's not like he's standing in the background flexing.  In the 2nd one especially, he has to actually act.

Agreed 100% - and it's not an easy character to act because of the mannerisms.
