If you don't know who he is, then leave the 1980's and come back to present day.

If he's not in the WWE it's because they don't need him. And if present day wrestling is so great then why is there always posts like this on forums about how today's wrestling sucks and it's not like it used to be. Maybe if they was great stars like in yester year we wouldn't be discussing about the next big thin to come along and it's not Kenny Omega just like it wasn't Daniel Bryan or C.M. Punk

Except for the fact that they tried to get him and he turned them down well over a year ago.  As have several others turned them down over the past few years to the point that WWE is legitimately worrying about it, thus the reason why they haven't released Neville and would rather pay him to sit than risk him making more money independently like these other guys.  I mean WWE doesn't NEED anyone, but that has nothing to do with how big a star Omega could or couldn't be.  If you don't even know who he is, why are you trying to comment on the situation?

if Bryan doesn't get hurt, he would've ben the next mega star. Hell, he's still the most over and possibly the next well known wrestler after Cena. Also, guys like Cena, Austin, Rock, Michaels & now Angle have been pushing the WWE to sign Omega ASAP. They know and see the star power he has.

Bryan is a garden gnome with no mainstream appeal. He's not even close to a mega star. It's only the hardcore fans that like him. His injury has nothing to do with it.

I doubt the Rock gives two shits about who the WWE signs or not

I would argue the only reason Hogan was the guy was the other people involved - Piper, Mr T, Cyndi Lauper, etc

Austin was never all that big outside of the ring

The Rock had/has mainstream appeal due to his movies and his willingness to look like a fool on SNL (you think Austin would have put on a tutu and danced on his toes?)

Cena goes all out for Make A Wish and his now very public relationship/breakup with Nikki Bella has him as more of a publicly recognized name outside of the business.

Before all of them there was Fred Blassie and Gorgeous George.

I doubt there will ever be another Hulk Hogan who would be able to bring Wrestling into the mainstream entertainment because it's already there and won't be leaving again anytime soon. There will be plenty of Austins and maybe more Rocks and Cenas or maybe there will just be somebody who does something brand new that takes the world by storm

no I dont think it will ever happen again. wrestling has jumped the shark. it will never be as huge as it was ever again. those were special talents that only come around once in a long time. and on top of it the wwe handcuffs its talent so they dont really even have a chance to become like those icons even if they had the charisma and talent.

Someday there will be another big star like that. Austin came from nowhere. So did Rock. If the WWE lets someone get over and the fans can accept the guy instead of constantly playing armchair booker and complaining about what they're not getting, it's possible. When the WWF was in its mid 1990s doldrums, a star like Austin or Rock seemed unimaginable, but they both broke through.

True he was part of a great cast but Hogan also had a certain aura about him that made fans tune in. He really didn't need the mic the way Austin and Rock did.

Take it for what it’s worth but Bruce Prichard said something on his podcast way back about Guys going off script and it being ok as long as it worked and needing to have thick enough skin to take Vince’s ass chewing if it didn’t. I don’t think anyone can be a star just reading the lines they are given because it doesn’t seem real.

As you said the WWF was coming off a tough period when Austin and the Rock broke thru and maybe they had more leeway then a talent would have today because of it. I also think things may have been different for them if the WWF wasn’t playing from behind at that time. WCW wasn’t really a threat in 92, 93 and 94 and I think that made the WWF lose focus; sure people will say the steroid trial was a factor and it probably was but the Hogan and Rock/Austin eras are both times when the WWF was either trying to take over (Hogan) or when they were trying to take back over (Austin / Rock).

Unless Sinclair really starts dumping money into ROH or another promotion emerges I don’t see another Mega star emerging.

The rock and Austin became stars when they were allowed to be themselves or extensions of themselves. the original gimmicks Vince gave them bombed. and Vince had nothing to lose because WCW was kicking his ass. things will remain the same as long as todays wrestlers have to read scripted promos and other such things. I dont think any of them have that superstar quality but the way things are going you will never know.
