Maybe in a case of extreme nepotism Lawler could've gotten him that job, but if you're looking at qualifications there are many ex-wrestlers in need of a paycheck without the baggage who deserved it more. Lawler might have said that to Christopher, but I'm less convinced he could've delivered.  Unless HHH said it, it doesn't mean much.

I'm guessing Lawler was hoping to give Christopher some sort of incentive to stay clean and figured if saying such a thing would do the trick, they could worry about the details later.

Scotty Too Hotty paid tribute to Christopher on Instagram:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bl51uq3nTs5/

thescotty2hottyThis is from the last time that the three of us were in the ring together. Brian and I were different people outside of the ring. We never traveled together, never roomed together, and never really hung out together. But, EVERY single time that we went through that curtain, we made magic together. Magic that will never be replaced. We were TOO COOL. I will miss ya BC

If anyone can post the YouTube link after it airs that would be great.  I'll never remember to look for it.

PWInsider:

It was announced that this weekend's episode of Jerry Lawler's Classic Memphis Wrestling will be a tribute episode to Jerry's son Brian, who passed away this past weekend:
Thanks to CW30 for this special tribute show to my son, Brian Christopher, Grandmaster Sexay, this Saturday morning at 11am. https://t.co/sF6gwYYux0
— Jerry Lawler (@JerryLawler) August 3, 2018
CW channel 30 has been making the Classic Memphis Wrestling series episodes available on their YouTube channel, so the tribute show should be made available after it airs.

Brian Lawler will be laid to rest tomorrow.  Everyone at PWInsider.com sends our deepest sympathies to the Lawler family.

The Rock pays tribute to Christopher:

Spent all week trying to process the hard loss of my good bud, Brian Christopher Lawler.

He became a great friend the day I stepped foot in the small wrestling territory in the south known as the USWA to start my pro wrestling career.

We rode together daily (1500 miles per week) trained together at any gym we could find, ate together at any Waffle House off the highway, wrestled together in flea markets to state fairs, shared motel rooms together, and would always dream (and talk shit;) about what life would be like once we made it to the big leagues of the WWE.

Once we both finally made it to the big leagues of the WWE, nothing changed... we still did everything together. Including having nightly Madden tournaments after our wrestling matches in our motel room and then we’d extend our competitive spirit to a rowdy game of Wiffle Ball. Imagine us acting like crazy Wiffle Ball idiots at 2am in the parking lot of the Motel 6.

Our jaws would hurt from laughing so hard.

Then we’d finally take our butts to bed, hit the gym in the morning, drive 200 miles to the next town to wrestle and start the night all over again.

I’ll miss these times now even more.

Hurts my heart to know how Brian decided to check out.

I never knew him to be suicidal, but I guess sometimes the pain just gets to be too much for one to take.

I’ll miss you man and the times we had.

Thanks for being a great friend.

Rock is something else. I know it's wrestling, and I know everybody does their own shit, but Rock is always talking about his "good friends" in the business but you never hear about him talking to or see him with anybody in the business if he's not in a WWE locker room. Him and Brian were "good buds" but I bet he hasn't talked to him since a year after Brian got fired for trying to bring drugs over the border.

I like Rock, but he comes off even faker than most when it comes to shit like this.

Rock and Brian Christopher probably hadn't seen or talked to one another since 2001, so the good buds thing was probably a bit much as was talking about the guy being suicidal. However, Rock did break in down in Memphis and was a regular there in 1996 when Brian Christopher was on of the top guys in a smallish crew of maybe a dozen guys. So they did go through some trenches together when Rock was impressionable and having his first experiences in pro wrestling. Plus if Rock spent any time in Memphis when Rocky Johnson was there in 1987, he and Christopher might have had a chance to hang out since the latter was only a few months older than the former. I can see this shaking Rock up even if the statement overdid it.

I don't think that's fair.  I have "good friends" that I haven't seen in years too, I think everyone does.  When you travel as much as these guys do, that compounds it.  Adult friendships can mean a lot of things and often don't involve face-to-face communication, especially these days.  He paid tribute to a guy he certainly didn't have to and that went out to God knows how many of his fans who know nothing about wrestling.  Just appreciate the gesture.

If you want to be jealous you can make the case that Rock is about as rich as Bill Gates these days and yet Christopher couldn't scrounge up a few thousand dollars for bail money and was left rotting in a cell while Rock is now musing about why Christopher killed himself.  But it's not The Rock's responsibility to bail out someone who made horrible life choices just because he became insanely rich and successful.  It's entirely possibly that Rock didn't even know he was in jail.

I think The Rock goes out of his way to stay in touch with wrestlers and always tweets and Instagrams at them.  If a no-name curtain-jerker references The Rock, I've seen him tweet back, which is something he certainly doesn't have to do and many in his situation wouldn't.  It's not the biggest thing in the world, but small gestures can tell you a lot about someone.  I bet if Brian Christopher had become the biggest movie star in the world, he would never talk about wrestling again.  Most guys wouldn't.

Yeah.  The biggest action movie star in the world has nothing to gain by paying tribute to Brian Christopher.  I think this was legit.  Did he say anything when Brickhouse Brown died?  Pretty sure Rock didn't like Brown.

My best friend from the time we were born basically (within 1 year apart) up until 13 years ago, we were like brothers'. Did EVERYTHING together, I'd have taken a bullet for him and him for me. THE definition of best friend. We both got married within 6 months of each other, my wife gets along with everyone, his wife is a stick in the mud that hated all his friends. Within a year of them being married they changed churches, they stopped hanging with his circle of friends and the only time I've seen him in the last 13 years I can count on one hand, usually at the local grocery store. I've never met his 3 kids, etc.

If he died tomorrow I'd still weep like a baby and post something like the Rock just did, may be over a decade but I still love him like a brother..

Is his wife's name David Koresh?  Sheesh.

Jerry Lawler's latest podcast "Dinner With the King" is now online, all about the death of Christopher.  I haven't heard it yet but he's supposed to talk about how he found out about the passing and how he's skeptical that Christopher really killed himself.

For all the wrestlers that made sure they made statements about how great a guy Brian was, how many actually reached out to him when some of his recent issues became public?
