I apologize if this is too early, but rumors all over the web in the last few minutes that Brian Christopher has hung himself in jail last night and passed away this morning.  Other reports say he hasn’t died yet but it’s only a matter of time.  If this turns out to be false then take it down, but this is spreading like wildfire amongst many sources.

PWInisder has this story up now, for what it’s worth, although they are only saying there was an “incident” and won’t call it suicide yet. As of a few minutes ago they’re saying he’s “not expected to recover”. Family friends have leaked that he’s already dead.

pwinsider reporting that he is very nearly, but not quite, dead yet. Sad news.

"Multiple sources have confirmed to PWInsider.com that Lawler's situation is dire and he is not expected to recover. Family members are assembling to say their goodbyes. One WWE source confirmed the company was aware of the situation. Obviously, we wish the Lawler family well during what is obviously a horrible situation."

Wet clothes are hung out to dry, while people are hanged. No need to forget out grammar, even in these tough times.

So sad. He was one of my favorites as a child when he was in the USWA.

The latest was a DUI where he refused to stop as they tried to pull him over. 2 months ago it was an incident where he stayed at a hotel and the credit card was denied. Lots of little things over the past few years, but he clearly had a drinking and drugs problem.

That is a fucking drag.

I heard they were waiting for his Dad to get there and say his goodbyes before they pulled the plug.

My heart goes out to The King and the rest of his family.

Always liked watching Brian. That ear piercing laugh he had always cracked me up. I thought the WWF/E could have done more with him, especially as a heel. He was great in the USWA. One of the main reasons to watch it during certain era's of the USWA and Memphis wrestling's existence.

I remember he had a reputation as a good worker and talker during his early years in the USWA.  A real blue chip prospect.  There were comparisons to Shawn Michaels in the early '90sa and both used the superkick at a time when there weren't 130 thrown each match. I was excited to see him get a shot in the WWF's Light-Heavyweight division but of course that whole experiment was a bomb and he never fit in there.  It's a shame he became part of a comedy tag team and that's where his legacy lies, but at the height of the Attitude Era, Too Cool was very over and a big part of the shows. R.I.P.

WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett posted on his social media thoughts on the passing of Brian Christopher Lawler yesterday:

I woke up Sunday morning in London with many, many texts of the initial report on Brian. And, over the next few hours I had the time to reflect on all the years that I’ve known Brian; our fathers were business partners for many years and that’s how we initially met. From our first times together in USWA there were ALWAYS two things you could count on him to do—one, he was going to make you laugh no matter what was going on, and two when he stepped in the ring he was going to let his incredible charisma shine thru...his infectious laugh(at times really annoying), his athletic ability, and his knack for making everyone in the match better! For about 3 years I wrestled with or against Brian more than anybody during that time; and, I became a better professional wrestler because of it.

Over the years the Brian I, and so many more, knew became covered up in “life”...

The disease of addiction is real, it’s very dark, and it’s fatal if left untreated.

Brian, love ya and I will miss you my friend.

I pray your soul is finally at peace! ????????????????

I'd like to think that someone is going to get into a lot of trouble for Brian Christopher being able to hang himself in his cell.

PWInsider:

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced this evening that at the request of the District Attorney's office in Memphis, Tennessee they are opening an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of former WWE performer Brian Christopher Lawler.

Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen issued a statement to WMC-TV in Memphis this morning that there were no indications that former WWE star Brian Christopher Lawler was suicidal at the time of his arrest for DUI, evading police and reckless driving on 7/6, therefore he was not placed under a suicide watch.

According to Doolon, Lawler was being kept alone in a cell due to his “notoriety”, likely a reference to his decades of celebrity in Memphis as a professional wrestler locally as well as with WWE.

WMC-TV reported that corrections officers found Lawler hanging in his cell on Saturday evening, immediately began delivering CPR and had his transported to the hospital. Lawler was taken off life support yesterday at 4:40 PM EST.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, at the request of the District Attorney’s office, has opened an investigation into Lawler’s passing.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued the following statement on the now ongoing investigation into the death of former WWE star Brian Christopher Lawler:

At the request of 25th District Attorney General Mark Davidson, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident involving an inmate at the Hardeman County Jail.

On Saturday evening, Brian C. Lawler (DOB 1/10/72) was found hanging in his cell. Corrections officers administered CPR until paramedics arrived. Lawler was transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis where he died Sunday afternoon.

Preliminary information indicates the incident does not involve foul play. However, the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Lawler was booked into the Hardeman County Jail on July 7th on charges of DUI, Driving on Revoked, and Evading Arrest.
