That would be abrupt. No farewell match with Jeff or anything?

Is there an injury? Assuming this is the case, why would he want to retire now when he has a gimmick that, even if it's getting a little stale, is over enough to provide him with a solid WWE midcard career for years to come, along the lines of Goldust?

WWE star Matt Hardy, who has been teasing that his career is coming closer to completion with recent social media posts of late, disclosing that his lower back and pelvis as "fusing together" due to the beating his body has taken over the years. Hardy specifically noted that he believes the years of elevated legdrops off the ropes are the cause of the issue:

i never would have figured Matt to be the first one to retire due to wear and tear.

Matt's always been bow-legged and looked weird delivering those legdrops.

Hehe...I've always thought that as well. He never seemed to look and move like a natural athlete, unlike his brother imo. Don't get me wrong, the guy took it to the limit with what he had and I've always been a fan of him and his brother's work.

For those who have asked about Matt Hardy's future as he has posted several posts on social media teasing that his in-ring career may be done, while that is not 100% confirmed, he will be taking an extended period of time off from performing in the ring. As noted previously, Hardy announced that his pelvis bone is fusing to his lower back, likely due to all the years of legdrops he's performed in the ring. Hardy is going to be undergoing a big physical therapy regime in North Carolina. Hardy is in NYC for Summerslam, so he could always pop up in some role on the show.

During an appearance on SiriusXM's Busted Open Radio, Rebecca Hardy noted that Matt Hardy's current WWE deal is up in March 2019 and he's exploring all options, including a potential backstage role within the company. As we noted last night, Hardy was at all the production meetings this week observing and learning about the process.

If Matt can stay straight, he’ll be great at this. I hope it works out for him.

Matt is a natural as a producer/creative team member. His perspective is one that is really old school but relates to the current product. This would be interesting.
