Died today at age 71 of kidney failure.

Sadly I don’t know much about him. I saw him in the late ‘80s a bit during the dying days of the AWA. I know he had a hell of a career before that. R.I.P.

I guess if Ivan Koloff, Nikolai Volkoff, Nikita Koloff, Boris Zukhov were not available you would call Alexis Smirnoff. I always remembered him as that lesser known Russian guy.

He was a substantially better wrestler than Zukhov, although past his prime by the time Zukhov started making a minor name for himself.
