When did "W" become "dub"?  Rate Topic

I noticed this with the "AE Dub" chant recently.
I attended tons of ECW events at the arena from 1993 - 1996 and not once was it chanted "EC Dub".  It was always clearly "ECW, ECW".
Why pronounce "w" as "dub"?  Is there something I'm missing?

I saw it as far back as the '90s when written in print.  I agree, every time I was at an ECW show we said "W".

Warrior fans called themselves Dub nation in the late 90s. Don't know if someone else used the Dub for W before that.

it is probably like so many things in life -texting, acronyms, slang-things typically get shortened for ease, and it just seems like a cultural shift imo!
