Oh my God, I'm starting to lose a lot of respect for Meltzer and Alvarez over this AEW love fest. I am listening the WOR right now and they are talking about last night's show and could they not find ANYTHING good to say about NXT. Everything is glowing about AEW, even the shit women's matches they have, but it is nothing but criticism for NXT. It's getting worse with Dave. I guess he is "All In" on his bias with AEW and doesn't even care anymore whether people hear it or not.

Wednesday Night War Week 5: AEW - 822,000 viewers, up 70,000 from last week NXT - 813,000 viewers, up 260,000 from last week No World Series competition and a weak season of Survivor on CBS really helped the ratings last night.

I loved the brawl at the end of Dynamite this week involving everyone on the PPV. Everyone is in an inter-connected feud like the old days of the NWA and everything ties together, which is also a great way to have mid-carders and main eventers side-by-side. In WWE, everything exists in a silo and no one ever seems to interact outside of the one feud of the month. There’s also no comparison between crowd reactions. Raw sounds like a funeral compared to Dynamite. Last edited on Fri Nov 8th, 2019 02:29 pm by srossi ____________________ This thread was great before AA ruined it. |

In WWE, everything exists in a silo and no one ever seems to interact outside of the one feud of the month. There’s also no comparison between crowd reactions. Raw sounds like a funeral compared to Dynamite. Completely agree. I also like the way that AEW have managed to make the PPV as special as a PPV can be in 2019 (personally I think PPV wrestling's time is coming to an end). We have rarely seen the top guys meet each other in the ring, and then only fleetingly in tag matches. The Inner Circle vignette was brilliant. It was laugh-out-loud funny, but it also fed into the story that Jericho isn't taking this seriously and Cody is. The line about Jericho being, at 48, the youngest ever AEW champion was classic. It's bad form to criticise this or NXT at the moment. Not only are they the best wrestling on TV/interwebs at the moment, but they are both essential viewing. But, this being the interwebs, here are my criticisms of AEW at the moment: I have no problem at all with Riho as the women's champion. She fits right into the mid-set of AEW and most of their fans. I think this is a new evolution of wrestling I Understand why older fans may not like it. I think they are going with the idea that, if the fans know that wrestling is a performance (fake if you want) then they can present a different product. No need for selling or old-school psychology, they are just there to entertain the fans with crazy moves, bizarre comedy, and whatever else they want. If you are complaining that Riho is too small to be believable as champ, this isn't the wrestling show for you. Witness the crowd's reaction to Orange Cassidy's kicks to PAC on Wednesday, they loved it, so it works for a lot of people not named James E. Cornette. Having said that, the women's division is weak. Britt Baker is doctor, a dentist. OK... so what? I'm not getting the Freddie Mercury gimmick. When I first saw Emi Sakura in AEW, I thought she was going to be different people for each show, which would have been cool, but this is just weird, and she struggles to get the fans into her "We Will Rock You" gimmick. But, whatever, it's a lower mid-card title at the moment. I enjoyed the tag team tournament, but the Young Bucks vs LAX seems more important than the tag title match tomorrow night, which isn't how it should be. Private Party, while they can pull off some decent aerial offence, just aren't very good wrestlers yet. They need more training and practice. Hangman Page is boring. I just don't see anything in him. They need to develop his character a lot, because, amongst all the great talent in AEW, his in-ring work doesn't stand out, and he's getting lost in the shuffle. Shawn Spears is a very lucky man. He is bang average, and there's no way that AEW would sign him today. It was a good news story at the time, but the only thing about Tye Dillinger that was over was his "10" gimmick. He peaked during his Royal Rumble debut entrance, but there is nothing once you look past that. But this is all just me just me splitting hairs. AEW is four stars or better every week, and is light years ahead of Raw and Smackdown, a lot due to the fact that the guys are clearly having fun out there. I don't think Seth Rollins has had fun in a wrestling ring for about five years.

Agree with all of the above except I like Hangman. Jericho vignette was gold and we got a Virgil cameo! The best part were the close-ups of Hager saying nothing (and he never should). This is easily Jericho’s best work since the Shawn Michaels feud many years ago. He did not look great in NJPW but he’s doing much better now. The most important thing is that everyone in AEW is clearly having the time of the lives and no one seems scared. On Raw, everyone is terrified. If you don’t think so, listen to a promo by anyone currently under contract and then listen to a promo when any of the legends come back. The legends just talk. The current WWE guys are scared to death of saying one word wrong. In AEW without scripts to memorize or Vince to chew them out backstage, they’re just hitting it out of the park on every promo. But they still need to give more mic time to much of the roster because the guys killing it on the mic of all the veterans who have been dying for years for a chance to cut unscripted promos. Can the kids do it? Last edited on Fri Nov 8th, 2019 04:07 pm by srossi ____________________ This thread was great before AA ruined it. |

AEW is doing a better booking job than the WWE right now and comes off as something fresh and new, with good reason since it has only been on the air for a month or so. The promotion also has the WWF 1998-2000 thing going in which the promotion is so hot and the top guys and angles are so over that it creates a wave that sweeps the entire promotion forward. There was plenty of underneath stuff in the WWF from 1998 to 2000 that today wouldn't stand a chance but back then fans ate up and of which they now have cherished memories, because the Austin/Rock/McMahon show was on fire and it took everything else for the ride. AEW is now in that spot. Everything is over and they're riding the wave.

FWIW, despite one having blond hair, the other with dark hair, Orange (Pockets) Cassidy and Niners coach Kyle Shanahan look like twin brothers from different mothers.
