I pick him because like Cornette, its another guy that has alot of 'shoot content' out there on youtube. Most of it focuses on WCW behind the scenes, and frankly he generally has a good explanation for how things went down.

Good for the business? In over his head? You tell me.

If anyone is made for the wrestling Business It is Bischoff he is a carnie 100% I am sure he was a little over his head. He did what had to be done at the time. Open Uncle Ted's wallet to get top guys. However the one thing he did wrong was give guys Creative Control think that was one of the reasons why ratings dropped.

Bischoff conned his way into a job that he had no qualifications for, and faked his way through it with remarkably good results for a few years before it all came crashing down.  And 20 years later, he has an executive role in WWE.  That's some impressive carny shit for a 3rd string announcer.

He didn't con his way into anything. Schiavone has talked about this, the WCW guys got Bischoff, Tony and 2-3 other guys and said they were looking for a new guy to head the company and told all of them to go and write up a plan for the company and where they would take it. Tony said he didn't take it seriously but Eric and the rest of them did and they chose Eric because he had the best ideas and plan. Who can argue that they chose the wrong person? He didn't kill WCW...

There are accusations that he used Jason Hervey and others to pad his resume in order to help him get the job, but Eric is an excellent salesman. If you listen to the commercials on his podcast you'll know that. That's why he was hired for the position of Executive Producer and explains his ascent to Senior Vice President and eventually President. Not to mention he got results, which is something his predecessors were unable to achieve.

I hung out with Eric twice during his peak NWO years and he was a complete sweetheart of a guy. No arrogance, self deprecating sense of humor, and he picked up the tab for dinner for ten people. I think he liked talking to someone like me because I wasn't a drooling mark and could sound a little bit like I knew what I was talking about when the conversation was about Nitro.

So you talked about the NWO but didn't ask Bischoff about swinging with DDP and Kimberly?  What a pussy.

I believe I’ve heard Bischoff say on his podcast multiple times that creative control wasn’t a big deal or a problem.  He says it’s just an internet narrative that has been repeated over and over for years and people assume that it’s fact.  He sometimes blames Meltzer for the origin of many long time rumors.

I honestly think he would have went into minute detail if asked directly. Opportunity lost. I feel much shame now.

Over time I have grown to appreciate him.

I tend to believe his resume was fluffed to get 'head control' at WCW though.

I believe his contributions to the business is understated since the victors got to write history. Ahead of his time in terms of TV presentation and making wrestling appointment viewing on a national level every week.
Post wrestling, he had success in landing his TV shows on viable networks. That takes a lot of work and leg work to navigate the television business and its shark infested waters.
As an announcer, he wasn't that good. He was a step above Lee Marshall and Chris Cruise. His best abilities were behind the scenes. The guy made WCW profitable for multiple years. Who else did that? Oh yeah.. No one.
I mean he's no srossi but thankfully who else is?

I don’t think creative control was a problem until it was; meaning giving the farm away to get Hogan was the correct move but allowing him to destroy the roster as a part timer got stale pretty quick especially with some of the goofy booking ideas. The Flair and Vader programs could have been more entertaining with even the most inconsequential losses On Hogan’s side. But then again they weren’t drawing much without hogan so maybe it wouldn’t have mattered.

Outside of the Sting v Hogan starrcade mess I think Eric did a pretty solid job and he seems like a cool ass dude.

You talk about him “destroy(ing) the roster,” and of course, we’ve been reading that repeated narrative on the internet for 20+ years now.  I know I’m used to hearing that, and how his creative control did this and did that.  The thing is, he lost to all of these guys:

Arn Anderson
Roddy Piper
Lex Luger
Sting
Giant/Big Show
DDP
Goldberg
Ric Flair
Kidman
Mike Awesome
Vampiro

He even sold for Jay Leno for crying out loud.  Looking back, I just don’t see it, certainly not at the level the IWC has made it out to be for all these years.  Again, Bischoff says that stuff isn’t accurate.
