WWE remembered that Shelton Benjamin was on the roster.

I don't watch much WWE weekly tv, are they marketing this tourny as a Harley Race Memorial type tourney or no? It would be kinda nice if they did. I know Don Muraco actually won the inaugural tournament in 1985, but it was the 1986 Harley show that most people remember.

Elias broke his ankle and was replaced in the semifinals by...Shane McMahon.  Shane put over Chad Gable leading to a mid-card looking finals of Gable vs. Baron Corbin.  I suspect that Gable would've beaten Elias too as that's clearly how this tournament was being booked.

The finals have been bumped off of the Clash of the Champions PPV and will now take place next week on Raw, so really the whole thing seems lackluster and I don't feel like anyone is benefitting much from it.  I fully expect Corbin to win too, even though this is supposed to be the underdog push for Gable.

I am not one to get worked up by the booking in pro wrestling like I was a decade ago and further back. If I don't like something, I shrug it off and figure maybe something else will come along that's more interesting or better later. Baron Corbin winning that triple threat match over Cedric Alexander and Samoa Joe was the first thing to get me mad in ages. It showed how badly out of touch the WWE is with what its fans want and what the promotion should want. Corbin has the size Vince loves and his look is decent, but his ring work and persona are average at best. He's never going to be a big star and his continued push won't get him over. Of the three wrestlers in that match, Corbin winning was the least advantageous scenario for the promotion. The only thing that can save King of the Ring now is Chad Gable getting not only a clean win, but a decisive one that happens because he hits the moves to take his opponent down for a three count instead of someone running in to help him or Corbin slipping on a banana peel so Gable can get a fluky win that gives him no benefit.

Vince thinks Corbin has more heat than any heel in years. Seriously. He loves the guy.

Corbin’s look has improved since he shaved his head but I don’t understand what Vince likes about him beyond his size.

I don’t like how they have been stretching this tournament out; if they were going to drag it out this long they should have added a few more weeks and made it a round robin tournament.

I picked Gable from the start in a conversation with my son but I’m sure he’ll lose in the finals.

I don't even think Corbin has great size. I guess for this era anyone who's 6 feet is a giant, but although he has some height, I feel like he could fill out more, add some weight (hopefully muscle and not fat). He doesn't have an impressive look to me, but everything is graded on a curve.

He does and he has a great finisher...people legit hate this guy and now that they changed his outfit with the wife beater, if he takes steroids and fills out a lil he can be huge heel.

It seems like change the channel heat to me.  They blamed him for the sinking ratings in the storylines, and there's no doubt there were many factors that contributed, but when he was all over Raw as GM the ratings really did plummet and the shows were impossible to watch.

I feel that Baron Corbin has X-Pac heat, that fan hatred of X-Pac from around February of 2000 until he left the WWF/WWE in mid 2002. It wasn't that fans wanted to see X-Pac get beat up by the babyfaces. They were tired of him, thought he was over pushed, and didn't want to see him anymore. He was burned out in the WWF and in the territory days it would have been time for him to go someplace else. X-Pac was getting the "X-Pac sucks!" chant in that timeframe. At the Invasion card in 2001, he was the only WWF guy to get booed vs. The Alliance. Like with Corbin now, he had heat with the fans in attendance, but that isn't money drawing heat.

One of my favorite memories on the awful Invasion angle was the announcers just cracking up during that PPV and Lawler or someone hilariously shouting, "I can't believe he's still getting booed!"

Whoever it was it wasn't Lawler. He was gone during the entire invasion and didn't return until the night after it ended.

Once Punishment Martinez does his time in NXT I think they should team him with Corbin and let them tag for a year or so. He needs to get the jr GM stink off of him.
