I didn’t realize there was a 4 minute one.

It’s funny that a 4 minute commercial about a wrestler mostly doing non pro wrestling things has me interested in this wrestler. It’s totally different but reminds me of how I liked the Roddy Strong piece the E did a few years ago. AEW should bring this guy in as Kenny Omega from 2026; after he got into drinking and tattoos and have him try and help current Kenny avoid these pitfalls and eventually erasing himself if successful.

The National Wrestling Alliance will be releasing the first edition of GIRL POWERRR, an offshoot of their NWA Powerrr series, built around the female performers in the promotion discussing a number of topics:

I’d love to have been a fly on the wall for that meeting when someone says, “You know what old school wrestling fans really want? ‘The Talk’ but with Thunder Rosa instead of Sharon Osborne.” Last edited on Thu Jan 2nd, 2020 06:20 pm by srossi ____________________ This thread was great before AA ruined it. |

This weeks episode was solid. They are getting more clarity with who is a face and a heel and the storylines seem to be a little more straightforward and not as jumbled. And the cheesy comedic parts were kept to a minimum. Yeah they are using old timers but they are doing it rather effectively with the RnR. If this show stays on this sort of path, it will be on to something. That women’s match was stiff too. Really solid work. The other wrestling continued to be much more classic wrestling vs. modern flippy floppy spot fests. And they used interviews to build angles. Tim Storm, Aldis, Drake, they have some good talkers. Big thumbs up this week.

Quattro wrote: This weeks episode was solid. Agreed. Thought this was a very solid episode. I like the way Ricky Morton is being used now too. The Aldis-Starks 6-minute draw was very well done and helped slowly build a young star in a realistic way, very reminiscent of an old NWA angle. Tim Storm is really a great white meat babyface promo and doesn't get the credit for it, but he could teach WWE writers how to do it right. Yeah Tim Storm really is believable. Interview-wise. His ring work is a little meh. Not awful but clearly he is older and probably was never a great worker. But if they keep positioning him like this old man, tank coming at you it works. Especially with the buy in he gets from his interviews. And they are doing INTERVIEWS!! Not just ranting promos all alone. The interview as the representative of the promotion is still in control just like ever other sporting event EVER except for modern day WWE.

They still have a little too much of a cheesy vibe though that needs to be tweaked. But this is solid progress.

Last night was a special 90-minute show leading to the PPV, and after doing nothing for weeks they really packed this one. Main event was Ricky Morton getting his NWA title shot against Nick Aldis in a basic but decent 12-minute match. Watching now. Thunder Rosa is a potential star. Really believable and solid ring work from her.

Did anyone else watch Hard Times? I thought it was a very average PPV, with only 2 real PPV quality matches in Aldis vs. Gordon and Rosa vs. Kay. The TV title tournament featuring all those 6:05 matches (none of which even came close to that time limit) really killed the show. Anyone jobbing in 3 minutes in 2020 just comes across like a total loser, so it's hard to take these guys seriously.

The NWA announced today that they have hired Sean Mooney as a commentator and he will join starting with tomorrow's episode of Power. With 2 commentators and an interviewer already, I'm not sure where they're fitting him in. I really hope that move Wade Barrett into a wrestling role and away from the broadcast table, but I don't think he's wrestled at all since his WWE release and may not be interested.
