I just saw the Benoit episode and man that was hard to watch. Well done but just really tough for me to get through. I never get that emotional about stuff that doesn’t directly involve me, but I wish I hadn't watched to be honest.

I watched the Benoit one and it was what it was. He wove a serious path of destruction.

It’s probably been discussed and proven but is there a solid link between brain damage and emotional outbursts? Listening to Vicki talk about how emotional Chris was about Eddie’s death made me think Chris was totally off the rails at that point. I don’t know what anyone could have done at that point though.

Outside of the obvious I suppose my biggest takeaway was diversification of interests and desires is a plus. If he had something else to move onto career wise he might have been able to save himself and his family but I think he was going to ride this horse till it gave out health be damned and his mental health broke before his physical health. I feel bad for Nancy if the stuff about Kevin was true she had a tough go relationship wise and poor Daniel never had a chance.

I’m supposing the second part is going to lay out the aftermath which I’ll probably skip.

What aired tonight was 2 hours, and that’s the 2 parts. There isn’t anything else. Next week will be the New Jack episode.

Anyway, I have no new opinions and almost all of this was already covered in depth. I think Benoit was a perfect storm of a guy who was naturally wound too tight, drank too much, took massive amounts of steroids, and had a brain that was rotted from the inside. Football players not nearly as emotionally fucked up as him wound up killing themselves, so I can’t say it’s too surprising that he snapped and took others with him. It’s incredibly sad, even after all these years. Ultimately Benoit made his own choices that led to what happened, but no one knew back then what multiple concussions could do. I remember in every sport in the ‘90s, if you “only” suffered a concussion it wasn’t seen as a real injury and maybe you’d sit out for a day, if it was reported, which 95% weren’t. If someone was hit hard and got away without any broken bones and “only” the concussion, absolutely everyone back then didn’t consider the athlete actually hurt in any real way. They just “got their bell run”. So without the benefit of hindsight, you have to feel a little for Benoit for not understanding what was happening to him. Today, it never would go nearly that far. Would he still snap if he was told he had to retire like Daniel Bryan, especially a year after his best friend died? Maybe. It’s impossible to say. He was abusive in the first place and I doubt that part was 100% the CTE. I just wish he had killed himself first. Then he’d be remembered as a tragic tale but he never would’ve been erased from history, and his son could’ve grown up.

I’m still curious who knew what and when. Jim Ross vehemently defended the decision to pay tribute to Benoit on Raw that night and insisted they didn’t know the whole story. Jericho said the same and at this point has led reason to lie than anyone, especially since he refused to take part in the show in the first place. I think CM and maybe Meltzer too have stated that by the time Raw went on, almost everyone in the inner circle knew Benoit was a murderer. I don’t know about that.

I saw the video on YouTube last week maybe it was the entire show but I thought it was only an hour.
