This might go over like a fart in church, but I’m going to rewatch Hennig vs Bock 1986 in about an hour (11pm Central Time) and post my thoughts in this thread.  Join me if you want.  Might be cool.  Might suck.  I don’t know.

I’ve got in on at least the WWE AWA set, so I’m going to use that. It might also be on YouTube or the Network.

So it’s on the Life and Times of Mr. Perfect dvd, not the AWA dvd.

Match was taped Nov 15, 1986. Aired on New Year’s Eve.

Bell rings and we’re underway. Bock dropkicks Hennig after Curt turns around and goes back to the corner after the bell. Bock ain’t fuckin’ around tonight.

Dumbass Trongard asks Blears, “Are you ready to go 60 minutes?”. Blears tried to cover.

Blears trying to explain how to use the bone in your forearm when applying a side headlock and kids don’t fucking do this at home!

Nick’s side headlock takedowns are like Steamboat’s armdrags. He gets in there deep.

fucked it all up...and the blatant time announcements and countdown made it waaaaay too obvious where it was going. That has always knocked it down a peg for me. Love the match though.

Larry Nelson calling out the time at five minute intervals. Not really necessary. So Bock dominates first ten minutes with side headlocks. Hennig countering with head scissors and now armdrags and armbars.

Blears listing all the guys Bock has beaten and mentions Flair, Hogan, and Martel.

Gotta say, I miss the Showboat. Not a bad little venue.

Shit, Bock charges the corner at the 15 minute mark and missed Hennig and hit the post. Hennig’s gonna take over now.

Geezuz, 24 minutes in and Trongard again says this could go 60 minutes and then will end in a draw. Blears again subtly tells him to shut the fuck up.

Some awesome, believable matwork happening now. Nothing looks rehearsed. Two guys reversing holds on the mat like it’s a real amateur match. Great shit.

Lord James Blears telling the kids at home to NEVER GIVE UP in anything you do. NEVER GIVE UP!!!

30 minutes in. Bock starting to work on the knees and rough it up a bit.

Ref bump. Blears is worried about Gary DeRusha. Hennig back in control and picking up the pace. Hennig staying on the arm/shoulder. Blears gives us his first Tally Ho.
