One good piece of NWA news this week. Dave Marquez won't be involved.

Kriss wrote: Not saying it won't be a decent card, but how is this worth paying for with no build? Perfectly fine free show, but even asking $5 for this is a lot. Really only the top 2 matches are worth a damn. And that’s based on AEW getting Thunder Rosa over and the emotion of Josephus’ death.

You gotta admire the NWA for putting on a two hour PPV for $20 with cable access production values on the same day as a WWE PPV you could watch for $5 (and get a month of Peacock and the WWE Network). They changed the TV title time limit from 6 minutes 5 seconds (6:05) which was cute but really made no sense, to 10:05, with just makes no sense at all. And having the Pope-Latimer match ending in a draw was a strange decision for a PPV title match. If they really want to be traditional, shouldn't TV title matches be longer matches, with the title only on the line for the first 15 minutes? That's how it worked for the Crockett version of the title. There were some good promos and some good wrestling, but still. Tyrus looks every day of his 48 years, though. What were they thinking booking him I don't know. When they did the 10 bell salute for Josephus, they only rang the bell 8 times, which led to an awkward silence. The women's match (if you can ignore the guest commentary from Taryn Terrell) and the main event are worth catching for free. Some comments on this show after watching the PPV this morning. - Aldis' promo to kick off the show was probably the best thing that happened in wrestling all weekend. Just a perfect old school NWA style promo, which Aldis has perfected. He doesn't have to talk about anything in particular, it's always good. Being the "locker room leader" bringing the NWA back after a year absence and referencing the turmoil throughout the world and within the NWA in particular was a great little motivational jump-start to the show. - That opening 4-way was a blink-and-you-missed-it match, not even worth putting on the show much less shoving 4 guys into it, none of whom could showcase anything. - Conversely, Tyrus vs. Kratos seemed like it lasted forever and my God it really didn't have to. That should've ended much quicker, and why in the world would they put over Tyrus, who looked and moved like a literal dinosaur, over one-half of their tag champs, who admittedly looked and moved no better. - Commentator Joe Galli doesn't understand how time works. In the TV title match, the time limit for some reason was expanded from 6:05 to 10:05, but the clock on the screen counted backwards to 0. When the clock said 8:00, Galli insisted that 8 minutes had passed in the match instead of 2. When the clock said 6:05, Galli said that in a normal TV title match, the time limit would've already expired even though only 4 minutes had passed. What the fuck is wrong with this guy? The match itself was OK but did it have to go the time limit instead of just putting Pope over? - Kamille is still green as baby shit and gets lost routinely during a match, and had no business beating Thunder Rosa, coming off of the highest profile women's match in the U.S. since Ronda Rousey left WWE. Rosa tried to carry her, but it was rough. And putting Kamille over like she's Aja Kong or someone makes no sense, she's not THAT big or strong. Also, they barely touched on any of Rosa's AEW work over the past year, which put the NWA Women's title on the map, other than to say she was still recovering from a "hardcore" match less than a week ago. That match could've happened anywhere against anyone, they didn't get into it. What a missed opportunity to put her over, on commentary or in the match itself. Makes no sense. - Taryn Terrell on commentary for the women's match was so distracting and terrible that I wanted to hit the mute button. Imagine taking your 20-year old airhead girlfriend to the football game and she spends the whole game trying to talk to you and your friends about her workout routine until you finally explode and scream, "I don't care how hot you are, get the fuck out you dumb fucking cunt!" I might've shouted that at my TV but no one could hear. I remember she had a hell of a surprising run in TNA many years ago, putting on matches light-years beyond what I thought she was capable of, so I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. But she should never be allowed to talk again. - And speaking of that, backstage interviewer May Valentine has an accent, speech impediment, or just no basic understanding of the English language and distracts the fuck out of me. Her segments were awful too. - Murdoch vs. Adonis was exactly the type of match you'd expect from Heat 10 years ago, and as a semi-main event on a PPV it was just comical, even though both guys did exactly what they're capable of, which is to say they're bottom of the barrel WWE guys from a decade ago. - How do you fuck up a 10-bell salute that badly? They double-rang the bell the 1st time, then rang it 6 more times. I couldn't tell you many times the bell rang, but it wasn't 10. - There was one pussy ref who wore a mask while in the ring, even though no one else did. Why? If you can't do your job, stay home. You don't need to wear a mask on TV in the ring. - Aldis and Stevens put on a good 20-minute match. These NWA title matches always seems to be better than they really are through Aldis' sheer force of will. He just makes you want to believe these matches are Flair vs. Race and they're absolutely epic, and you almost buy into it. I HATED the small package finish. Such an overdone finish completely unnecessary when no one expected Stevens to win anyway. - Austin Idol was good on commentary during the NWA title match, and I loved the VERY subtle heat between him and Tim Storm dating back to a previous feud. Storm was exceptional throughout and should be a fixture at the broadcast table instead of continuing to take bumps. He's a great brand ambassador and exudes class, professionalism, and likeability in everything he does. - Everyone gathered in the ring at the end with the Mongrovian flag and Question Mark mask was a predictable but nice way to end the show. I'm glad they didn't attempt another 10-bell salute or they still might be trying to count that high.

Finally managed to find somewhere to watch Power. It's basically the same show as before. It makes you wonder why they stayed away for so long. The bald interviewer is a welcome reprieve from Dave Marquez, though. Nick Aldis is a fantastic promo. He's being wasted in the NWA. Kamille was better when she didn't talk. I could do without Tyrus in 2021, though. The biggest problem with the show is the "crowd." They have about 5 guys making noise throughout the show. They don't shut up for a single second. The least they could do is turn their mic down, because some of the promos were difficult to listen to. One of them even tried to start up a "What?" chant. Is Austin Idol's Universal Wrestling College for real. It's to tell with NWA adverts, because most of them are joke ads, and the real ads look like jokes. Click here for their website. It looks like something from Geocities. Last edited on Sat Mar 27th, 2021 03:14 pm by Kriss ____________________ “Never argue with an idiot. Anyone have the latest episode of Power? I can only find the 3/23 show. I have a feeling these will be difficult to find going forward without a Fite TV subscription, which isn’t great for keeping the brand in the spotlight.

Last week's episode turned up in the usual place on Saturday, so I'm hoping for the same again tomorrow.

I’ll try again tomorrow. I know at some point even the pirates gave up on UWN Primetime though.

Last week's and last night's episodes of Power are now available for "streaming."
