I love the VF but I'll accept either Alice In Chains or Supertramp as a replacement.

If you're going to replace the VF in the "Why Can't I Get..." bracket (which seems to be mostly punk or punkish bands), I think the most logical replacement is Blondie.  Supertramp would stand out like a sore thumb in that bracket, and AIC doesn't really fit either.

I'd also be okay with replacing The Replacements with Blondie, but that's just my opinion.

Blondie is alot more well known then The Replacements with alot more Hits. Also, isn't Blondie in the Rock-N-Roll HOF?

I agree. I'd vote Blondie over both the Replacements and Femmes and they do fit the bracket theme well.  I still think AIC deserves a spot in, even though they don't fot the bracket as well.

What about Chilli Peppers or Jane's Addiction?  I personally take AIC over either of them, but they are worth considering, I think.

Great call about RCHC and Jane's...I can't believe I didn't think of them.  I wouldn't be averse to putting them in the "You never know..." bracket at the expense of Yes and Genesis.

We need both Yes and Genesis. Both have extensive bodies of work and enough line up changes to make for interesting conversation.

Maybe we should have a pre-tourney, "play-in challenge." Or a battle royal with the winner getting a spot, or something to that effect.

I'm on board with the play in challenge. This way we can stop arguing for a moment about first round jobbers.

I will replace The Place Mats with Blondie though.

Not a bad line-up. My only complaint though is that The Clash and The Sex Pistols shouldn't be facing each other in the first round of that bracket. They're both TOO good and both TOO influential for that to happen.

I'm against them.  Would be interested to see the same tourney done in a blind draw; I don't need any stylistic or geographic comparisons to cluster them before I would start picking.

Actually yes, I think this is a brilliant idea.

Just to add to the above. I think that is the way to go because by going with the seedings you have you end up getting genre vs. genre later in the tournament.
I'd like to have the possibility of having The Rolling Stones meeting The Beatles in the final or The Clash vs. the Sex Pistols, etc, etc, which can't happen with these seedings.

16 Band Battle Royal for the 8th seed in the Why Can't I Get Just One Fuck Bracket

Iron Maiden

Styx
Bachman Turner Overdrive
ZZ Top
38 Special
Electric Light Orchestra
Guess Who
The Mamas and The Papas
King Crimson
Emerson, Lake and Palmer

This Battle Royal will be held Monday. You can only vote for one band. Band with the most votes gets that coveted 8 seed.

Yes is one of those bands that can easily get routed, as you either "get" them or you don't. I didn't.

Of those 16 bands, I'm leaning towards ZZ Top. How I Managed to forget ZZ Top before, I dunno. They deserve to be in the tournament. Ted Nugent has a decent argument too. BTO was a huge at one time but really didn't have a long period at the top. This board seems to shit on artsy tartsy type bands so I don't think King Crimson or ELP will get many votes if they get any at all. Beej suggested Styx and 38 Special. Of the two, I'd say Styx has the better chance of picking up a few votes. ELO had a string of hits but doesn't have any following on this board. Papa John Phillips was a perverted fuck so his band gets in the tourney. The Guess Who had plenty of hits but I always thought BTO was better than the Guess Who. Foghat. Some good songs and some good albums. But a jobber in this battle royal. Brodie Suggested Iron Maiden. I could get on board for a metal band but Iron Maiden isn't the one. If I'm voting metal, I'll vote for Nugent. Alice In Chains was suggested on the board. Too tough a field for them.Bob Seger was always Detroit's version of Bruce Springsteen. Some good stuff but I don't see Seger and his mates being a factor in the battle royal. Steve Miller Band was the last addition to the field. How much does The Joker, Fly Like An Eagle and Jet Airliner mean to you?

That's my preview Meltzer style. To recap, ZZ Top is 1A and Ted Nugent is 1B.

I think Alice in Chains will put up a good showing and could maybe win. Depends on how classic rock-minded people are voting.

Unlike wrestling battle royals, this battle royal is going to be good. I love the majority of those bands.

But I am definitely voting Supertramp!
