Beachboys maybe. Not a big fan, just throwing the name out for consideration.

Are you going with just strictly what would would be considered Rock? Or can heavier Metal bands be in as well?

Slayer

Iron Maiden

Judas Priest

I would also put in Motley Crue and Poison if it's just Rock.

I would agree with these 4.

Also Foreigner and Journey as AA mentioned.

Ozzy has had a fantastic solo career....would he be automatically associated with Sabbath negating a solo entry in the tourney?

Rainbow would warrant consideration, one of my faves
Whitesnake
UFO

Yes and Genesis added. The others are being considered.

32 Velvet Underground/Lou Reed

Alice Cooper

We need 48.

Need to be convinced
Dave Clark Five
The Stooges- a personal fave but ...
Triumph
Soundgarden
Yardbirds- Great members as individuals but as a band?

You've got the Grateful Dead listed twice.

As far as the "needs to be convinced" list, I would argue for Soundgarden and The Stooges.

I argue for both because they were both so original and ahead of their time.  Plus, unlike a bank like, say, Triumph, their music is still very listenable today and doesn't seem dated at all.  For extra bonus cred, both bands had crossover appeal as witnessed by Chris Cornell in "Singles" and The Stooges obsession shared by most of the main characters in "Trainspotting".

That's my take.

Fixed the Dead thing in my file. I originally had Cream listed twice too but caught that one before anybody saw it. As a Mod, I have the option of editing a post without anyone seeing it. In other words, no "Edited by so and so" line.

Good argument for The Stooges. Maybe someone else will offer them support.

Apologies if any of these have been mentioned and discounted as possibilities or if some of them are so fully you giggle uncontrollably and injure yourself.

These three make the cut. Others are being considered.

Rainbow, UFO and Journey added.

Neil Young is in twice with CSN and with Crazy Horse. I'm still considering Ozzy.

Leading the pack reminded me of the song Running With The Pack by Bad Company. Bad Company is in for sure. Queen is also in the tourney.

What about Sammy Hagar? I know he could go in under Van Halen but there were the Montrose years plus all his solo work.

24 Steely Dan
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Kiss
Deep Purple
28 Neil Young and Crazy Horse
Blue Oyster Cult
Chuck Berry
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
32 Velvet Underground/Lou Reed
Pearl Jam
Alice Cooper
Yes
36 Boston

Interesting choice. I saw Sammy Hagar at Farm Aid I so I'm very familiar with his stuff. Sammy and his band played a bunch of their "hits" then Sammy invited Eddie Van Halen on stage. Sammy and Eddie did two cover songs and then left the stage. A few months later Sammy Hagar was announced as the new lead singer of Van Halen.

You can't have Hagar in, and omit Ozzy.

Claw, you now have Queen twice
