I won't go that far, but I'll narrow down the era to post 1940's.

Nice job.  Correct - you can lay off the who's yer daddy shit though.  I'll start docking points for fucking with the gamesmaster.  Your research is admirable, but your head is large.  I suggest changing your avatar to hot Britney too, not bald Britney.

7 points for you.  DFG takes the lead after the first real contest.  Stay tuned for another one, when I fucking feel like it!

Here are the remainder of the clues:

1.    I could catch in a pinch.

2.    If only my combined career stats could have been one season, I might have lasted longer in the bigs.

3.    I was born on one coast but attended college on the other.

4.    I am a righty, but apparently not the “right” fit for two different big league clubs.

5.    I am the definition of utility infielder…like I said before, I even caught a game!

6.    I was #1!  For a little while, anyway.

7.    I may have been the most successful 9th round draft pick the year I was drafted.

8.    I played in 2 different decades

9.    I was traded for a guy in 1979 who never made the big leagues again.  I wasn’t around much after that either.

10. I retired in 1981 following a brief stint with what then amounted to a Reds minor league team, the Indians.

Wasn't his career average around .230? How could that allow him to stay in the bigs?

For a small stature utility infielder his RBI #s werent bad for the era.  Look at his whole line.

You've gotta remember too that Wolfie played in an era of the slap hitting infielder.    His career line (161 games, 361 AB's, 7 HR, 50 RBI's, .230 BA), is on par with the 162 game average of other middle infielders of that era who had much longer careers.  For example:

Johnnie Lemaster (498 AB's, 3 HR's, 36 RBI's, .222 BA, 12 Seasons)

Dick Schofield Jr. (509/7/42/.230, 14 Seasons)

Mario Mendoza (316/4/24/.215, 9 Seasons)

So, by no means a Hall of Famer, I would agree with Mr. J's assessment that Wolfie could've had a longer career had his career stats been more on par with a single season stat.

Middle infielders are freaks now.  Back in my day a guy built like Mark Ellis hits maybe 3 HR or so.  He's probably gonna hit 20 this year and he's an afterthought in the league.

I like the old way better.  Gimme Alfredo Griffin.

For whatever reason, I loved the Griffin/Damaso Garcia middle infield back in the mid '80's.  To this day, that combo remains one of my all-time favorite middle infields.
