That Billy Graham match is just awful. Almost inconceivable what a transformation that guy made. He was never a good worker to begin with, but that karate gimmick was just fucking awful.

I love the T-Shirt that they are advertising, with a nice big picture of Hogan right above Verne on the right sleeve!

Also, how far in advance were these filmed? Because I'm sure that Mean Gene was in the WWF by this time...unless I'm slightly off. I thought he was there when Hogan came in to help Backlund in December '83. Maybe I'm off.

Gene was in the WWF by this time, definitely. I'm not sure how long Graham was there after the battle royal series from the Fall of '83 either. These matches may have been taped 4-6 weeks prior to airing. That's assuming the 1/14 air date is correct.

Also remember seeing some guy on the streets wearing the shirt with the faces on the sleeves. Ugly. I told the guy his shirt was cool. hahaha

Regarding the air date, I'm not in a position to watch at the moment. Were there any localized promos for house shows? Sometime Gene would just give a date, but other times he'd say things like "next Sunday" or "tonight" as things got closer.

I did the same as Tamalie [watched it at work] and probably missed alot - I could have sworn I saw a promo for the Keil Auditorium. The AWA in St. Louis in 1984? Did I see that right?

After Sam Muchnick retired, Verne Gagne bought him out along with Bob Geigel, Harley Race, and Pat O'Connor. The four may have had minority shares prior to then. When the WWF took over the Wrestling At The Chase program, the NWA cards in St. Louis were promoted via house show promos on the AWA, Central States, and World Class shows.

they promote a early February St.Louis Show. The earliest January 1984 Tv Taping was on January 3. and Gene was in the WWF by that time. so the matches are from at least mid December. I think Gene debuted with the WWF on December 27 1983.

Graham was still there in January of 1984. He lost a singles match to Jim Brunzell on the January St. Paul show. After that he might have been around for a bit still but not long.

Regarding the T shirt advertisements, stands to reason Verne would run with those even after Hogan was gone as I imagine they were still selling reasonably well.

I think he was in Florida by March or so, since he was starting his "Full Nelson" feud with BJH at that point.
