This was not their best Bootcamp match - but I wanted to point out what I believe made wrestling better then than today. I’m comparing this to the Omega-Jericho match. Watch Iron Sheik - Gorilla gets over on the mic that Sarge is wearing steel toed boots. Then Sarge stomps to “load” the boot the way Sheiky always does. When Sarge kicks Sheik in the gut, you’d think he gets hit in the stomach by a cannon ball. He is down and selling that kick like it was deadly. When he gets up to have some offense, he STILL sells the gut shot so that when Sarge hits it a second time it should be enough to put him away...and almost does. Now watch the Jericho-Omega match. Jericho puts Kenny in the Walls and really synches it in deep. Holds him for over a minute, Kenny spends a ton of energy and facial expression on the pain it’s causing him. Then he gets the hold broken, and he gets up and hits Jericho with a great move - and it’s like nothing was ever done to his back. No wincing in pain, doesn’t rub or hold it, nada. People called that a 4.5 Star match, I think it’s due to there being so few great matches anymore that this one looked like ice cream next to horse manure. It was a great match, but in an era of extreme closeups and HDTV, the guys need to sell that they are killing each other when they are not really...instead of the other way around.

Seems like the MSG Boot Camp match has about as much chance of seeing the light of day as Sammartino vs. Rogers.

I saw these two wrestle in Oakland. I don't even think they rang the bell. They just beat each other with flag poles and boots. Never heard a place so loud from start to finish. You couldn't hear the guy next to you.

The full MSG show with the Bootcamp match is out there. I have a good copy of it and I'm uploading it now. Will see if it passes the copyright check so I can post it.

But was it really The Iron Sheik?  Pay attention to the couscous in his 'stache, compare it to other Sheik matches.
