I can suspend some disbelief, like the ref never looking in George Steele's mouth for the foreign object, but this shit made me hate Vince's stupid bullshit.

Yeah, this. Not that there weren't a lot of steps in that direction before that, but this was the throw-up-your-hands moment for me for a lot of years.

Eh it was a significant event in the viewing habits of a lot of wrestling fans our age, so "classic" may not be the right word but as an event it was big for some of us.

I've heard so many people say that was the moment they stopped watching wrestling until 1998.  So yes, I suppose that is significant.

Classicly 'bad' perhaps but still a classic

I hated this so badly when it happened.  At the time I had just about given up on the WWF and this was the last straw for the most part.  The only thing that got me back watching was the debut of Raw and Hennig vs Flair.  When I saw that match on TV I figured they might give us something to watch once in awhile.  But other than Raw, I never searched out a WWF program again after seeing that angle.  Irregardless of how stupid the actual angle was, what got me was all those former wrestlers helping Warrior to the back and not one of them just punched Shango in the face to get him to stop?

This didn't bug me so much. I wasn't a 'smart' fan but (looking back) they were setting up Papa Shango's 'character'. Don't think Shango got a push other than a series with The Ultimate Warrior.

I'll say this, I do find it funny that so many smarks were revolted by this but love the Osirian Portal hypnosis video that went viral a few years ago.  I don't think it helped that the WWF played it so serious without a wink and a nod like the way comedy bits on the indies today are portrayed, but still.

I just watched the 6/1/92 episode of prime time where they recapped the shango / warrior curse and they aired a match from superstars where shango hulked up into a trance and knocked out the lights and burned a jobber’s boots and oozed his head. I don’t remember my feelings at the time but watching it in 2018 I thought it was fine for what it was. Shango was a neat character and probably my favorite that Charles Wright portrayed.
