I thought this was great at building up WM3. On one hand, I thought that Andre should have won in order to make him look invincible and that much more of a challenge since to me Hogan winning was a foregone conclusion. However, the angle of it taking one giant to eliminate Hogan and six or seven guys to get Andre out also made sense. It perhaps created some doubt about the finish and made fans more eager to see it.

Andre should not have lost, ever, until Hogan beat him at WM3. So I would agree that besides the angle showing that it takes the whole ring to eliminate Andre, it shouldn't have happened that way. Andre should have treated the whole ring, including Hogan, like jobbers in this match. The busting Poffo open with the headbutt was just classic stuff - Studd would often blade from Andre's headbutt.

Here's my question - why did WWF have Orndorff in such a prominent position when he was taking time off for his arm injury? Orndorff missed out on a huge WM3 paycheck and you'd think that for all the money he drew with Hogan throughout 1986 that Vince would have protected him here so that he could get "put out of action" at WM3 and gotten paid.

In terms of context, booking, roster.... to me, this is the best battle royal in history.  Still holds up today.  Well done.

In retrospect I'd have a different winner (Andre would be my guy) but it helped build some WM3 interest. Too bad they didn't have any longer term plans for Herc, but with all the other names on the roster I'm not sure what more they could have done with him.

So Andre and Hercules were both members of Heenan's stable but Hercules joined up with the group of wrestlers that eliminated Andre? I think Hercules screwed up.

Why wouldn't he? It's "every man for himself"..

I thought the story was that Paul was the back up plan in case Andre couldn’t go and got paid for chillin.
