This angle got over so big, that my mom (a non fan, but she used to take me to the matches at the time), called me at the bar she was at at the time to ask me what I thought of it. She told me the whole bar was shocked and talking about it.

The feud also actually drew money. The house shows actually outgrew Hogan vs. Piper from late 1984-1985.

The Big Event match that they had in Toronto was I think the WWF's biggest show ever before WMIII at 74,000 fans.  And it was essentially only a house show and VHS release.

That house show was originally scaled for 20,000 to 25,000 seats. The Tunney promotion had run occasional Exhibition Stadium cards through the years with the ring in the infield and distant seats unsold. This Toronto card was during the state fair like Canadian National Exhibition and the crowds for that event combined with the feud being hot to send tickets out the door. The WWF was stunned. They kept opening more sections and they kept selling them until by match night they had this enormous crowd. It wasn't known as The Big Event in the build up and got that name retroactively for the Coliseum Home Video release.

Just kinda reminiscing on that, I remember finding that video at a video store on a day off from school in early 1987. Pretty sure it was President’s Day. It was a mom and pop place (not Blockbuster) and my mom signed us up there so I could rent that, along with two others I had never seen - Inside the Steel Cage and Best of the WWF Volume 7. I was blown away watching that even though many of the prelim bouts stunk.
