Rare footage of Rocky from the Olympic Auditorium. Not sure who Mysterious X was. I don't think it was Gene LeBell but who knows. Rocky was a beast in his day. Revel in the old fashioned racism of Jimmy Lennon calling Rocky "boy". Bask in the alcoholism of Dick Lane. This vid has everything.

Was that the belt that Pedro held before beating Bruno for the WWWF strap?

This version of the belt lasted until around 1973. When Victor Rivera got the belt they switched to a boring, generic copy of the WWWF belt. I believe the belt that Morales wore was the first and last time it was worn. They needed to get Pedro over quick when he came to New York at the end of 1970 so putting the made up U.S. title was the quickest way to do it. That version of the U.S. title had no lineage to the one Sheik or Buddy Rogers or Bobo wore.

Thanks for the history lesson - I’m not very well versed in the early ‘70s stuff. Especially territories. I do think it’s pretty cool that wrestling from LA was shown in NY on the Spanish channel. When I started really watching, they were playing some bastardized version of WWC on the channel. Hugo Savinovitch went between Spanish and English, and there were lots of dubbed over NWA matches that weren’t from World Wide Wrestling. Lots of Colon and Abby stuff too. Wrestling was a lot more fun then, because when a guy jumped territories, everything got a little more interesting.

Back to why I commented - I do know Pedro was a big deal and that’s why he got the strap from Uncle Ivan. And I knew he was one of the major regional champions - also know that he didn’t ditch any territory with their belt in hand, but I knew he was some sort of America’s/US Champ, just wanted to know if it was from that lineage. Reason being, I didn’t know if somebody was setting Rocky Johnson up for a big run against maybe Dory Jr for the NWA belt. We know he wouldn’t have won it, but in his home territory it would’ve drawn.

Keep in mind, Pedro was never the America's champ. He was the WWA champ which was considered a legit world title. When Lebell kissed and made up with Muchnick in '68, they phased out the WWA world title and went with the local America's title. Technically, Pedro got two shots at the Americas belt in a title vs title match against Ernie Ladd which of course proved nothing.
