How is the usability of Genealogy Bank and what papers are there? I like the ability to tailor searches at NewspaperArchive.com although the site is quite buggy. Newspapers.com is very reliable from a technical standpoint, but its advanced search isn't advanced enough for my taste.

Here is their full newspaper list: http://www.genealogybank.com/newspapers/sourcelist/full/ In some cases, you will need to double check the "Years of Coverage", as saying they have 1903-1997 at the highest level may actually mean they have 1903-1904 and 1996-1997 for that title, but not all the years inclusive. The interface is not as good as Newspapers.com, as it is not as easy to browse. The site is setup more around searching. For any given result, though, you can click a link to see all the pages from that issue, and then click through them. When using it for family research, I relied on the actual First Name/Last Name search options, but for wrestling I usually just enter a date range for the paper I want and enter something vague like "sports" in the "include these terms" box. But in general, I love them as a resource, and have been a subscriber for years, initially for family research, but now mostly for wrestling. I have found the site to be very reliable. They do have their bad days, but those are rare. Last edited on Wed May 3rd, 2017 07:21 am by DaClyde |

Quick question for the experts. Does anyone know how to get the OCR for all of the articles over at NewspaperArchive.com? Reason I ask is I was doing some searching in the Amarillo territory on Noah Jones (of all people), and came across this one for the Pecos paper... https://newspaperarchive.com/pecos-enterprise-sep-18-1978-p-6/ At the very bottom it has the OCR text, which is all I really care about. But other papers do not have that. Was this just dumb luck, or is there a way to get that across every paper. Lots of spot shows from Hereford that I'd like to get (yeah, too cheap to pay for subscription), and quite a few Del Rio cards that I can't find in Newspapers.com As always, thank you for your help!!! Just a quick update, looks like some of the other papers have it, but not all. Last edited on Thu Jun 13th, 2019 09:12 pm by cman73 |

While you might question whether it's worth it, others outside of the wrestling sphere certainly have, I've spent at least $100 a year on various newspaper archives over the past 15 years of so. I don't really have any inclination to help someone who is "too cheap" to pay for it. While any new research is always welcome, thorough research requires being able to access any newspaper, since not everything appears just with a simple search due to bad scans. OCR text is nonexistent or very bad with many of the newspapers which weren't scanned in hi-res, which has only been standard for the past 3 or 4 years. By chance I found a Spanish NYC paper (La Prensa), which might have a good number of ~1928-1938 shows, especially from the smaller Star Casino. It's hosted on Memoriademadrid.es . Not sure where the search interface it, I just used the "site: " search on google. It might even be helpful for finding out promoters, like here (June 18th 1934)![]()
