From what I recall, it was a really quick job too. Less than a minute or something like that.

necrosis if you go through my Graham record book you will find more Backlund stuff for 82 and 83 when you read the newspaper clippings that are attached to it.

One thing overlooked is Bob working, and booking in the North east after he left the WWF.  One such card is this:

December 2, 1984

If you read on the bottom of that poster you will see a KM poster their by the same name.  SGT. Muldoon.  He posts their at KM in the ICW- Savoldi forum mainly.   He is a great wealth of information on Backlund when he was working, and promoting for the different North East indy promotions durring this time frame.  If I remember correctly and I may be wrong, but I think Muldoon says this poster was from the Eastern Wrestling Alliance, and Bob worked for a few promotions in the North East.

Now I need to go off and stab myself for helping out in this topic.

Ughhhhhh  I need a red hot poker to stab myself in the eyes so I dont keep looking in here.

Change the Altoona date from February 14, 1985 to the 13th.

In 1984/85 Altoona, PA.  hosted WWF, NWA and Georgia wrestling cards.

Here's where my memory is fuzzy from too much imbibing in college:  Was Muraco in GCW at the time?  Was he in a program with Rhodes?  He won the Intercontinetal title around April/May of 1981 and lost it later that year to Pedro IIRC.  Then, he reappeared in the WWF around late 1982, again IIRC.

I can't see Rhodes jobbing in less than a minute unless he had chronic diarrehea (have to throw a shit-inspired idea in there given the wrestler's fetish with it) or something similiar.

Don't be so hard on yourself Ron. Its more fun when we can stab you instead ;)

Ok, I took a look through the clippings for 82-83 and found the following:

11/02/82 Erie, PA @ Erie County Fieldhouse
Billy Graham beat Chief Jay Strongbow cor
Rocky Johnson vs Johnny Rodz
Jules Strongbow vs Baron Mikel Scicluna
Tony Garea vs Charlie Fulton
Eddie Gilbert vs the White Angel
Salvatore Bellomo vs Swede Hanson
WWF Champion Bob Backlund vs Playboy Buddy Rose

11/06/82 Boston, MA @ Boston Garden
Charlie Fulton beat Frankie Williams
Pete Sanchez beat Victor Rivera
Curt Hennig beat Johnny Rodz
Tony Garea beat Baron Mikel Scicluna
Jules Strongbow beat Swede Hanson
Chief Jay Strongbow beat the White Angel
Salvatore Bellomo beat Mr. Saito
Rocky Johnson beat Mr. Fuji
WWF IC Champion Pedro Morales ddq Buddy Rose
Ray Stevens beat Ivan Putski cor
Steel cage match
WWF Champion Bob Backlund beat Superstar Billy Graham

Ron does have this listed as a Texas Death Match on his site but the clipping doesn’t say anything, any confirmation?

12/30/82 Rochester, NY @ Rochester War Memorial
WWF Champion Bob Backlund vs Superstar Billy Graham

01/26/83 Hamburg, PA @ Fieldhouse
WWF Champion Bob Backlund vs Superstar Billy Graham

The above was a non-title match: http://superstarbillygraham.net/Graham/results/Jan26_1983.html

02/07/83 Rochester, NY @ Rochester War Memorial
Texas death match
WWF Champion Bob Backlund vs Superstar Billy Graham

02/12/83 Landover, MD @ Capital Center

Pete Sanchez beat Baron Mikel Scicluna
Mr. Fuji beat Jules Strongbow (sub. for Salvatore Bellomo)

Rocky Johnson & SD Jones beat Buddy Rose & Ray Stevens
Big John Studd vs Chief Jay Strongbow (Studd's Landover debut)
Jimmy Snuka beat Superstar Billy Graham cor
WWF IC Champion Don Muraco beat WWF Champion Bob Backlund

Interestingly, the poster does show that Morales is the IC Champion even though he lost it in NYC the previous month. How far in advance were the posters printed? http://superstarbillygraham.net/Graham/results/Feb12_1983.html

02/26/83 Bethlehem, PA
Eddie Gilbert beat Bob Bradley
Victor Rivera beat Barry Hart
Judy Martin & Liz Chase beat Terri Shane & Joyce Grable
Salvatore Bellomo beat Baron Mikel Scicluna
Pedro Morales beat Mr. Fuji
WWF Champion Bob Backlund beat Superstar Billy Graham

This was held at Lehigh University’s Grace Hall

04/02/83 Springfield, MA @ Springfield Civic Center

Big John Studd vs Andre the Giant
2/3 falls midget match

Again, all credit to Ron.

Cap center newspaper adds were printed in the papers sometimes up to 3 weeks before the event.  Add in the time for someone to create and rearange the advertisement from last month.  The offices were lazy by this time and did not worry about correcting things.  This stuff was sent to the papers and the papers printed it and no one corrected it.  People make fun of Phil Zacko when he ran the different venues.  But he corrected his promo box advertisements, up to the day of the show itself.

As for being hard on myself.  I have to be.  Because someone is going to tell me what a impact Bob had, and how over he was in 1977.  Then they will proceeed to tell me all about his sellouts in 77 and 78 for McMahaon.

p.s.  Don't be stealing any Graham matches dealing with the various WWF titles from that site     :D:tongue:;)

Oh before I forget... As for the Boston card.  The boston paper never did mention anything about the gimmick matches held their.  It was a bland paper with the results.  "just the facts"     I view Boston as I do most cities.  Their paper sucked with the coverage of wrestling.  What I have learned to do is to step away from the big picture.  I do it more and more for all cities.   You will be surprised how far out results are printed, and printed better and more accuarate as you pull back from the big city.

If you do research you have to go in with a open mind.  I havent played with Boston yet, to hit the outer city papers to get the better writups.

Lets say we use Albany, NY as my example.   Albany is running 2 newspapers.  "The Knickebocker news" has nothing to do with wrestling at all.  But the sister paper Schenectady, NY.  I opened up the

Muraco attacked Rhodes before the bell and hit him several times with a foreign object. Thus, the quick pin. I seem to recall someone saying that Dusty moved back to Florida right after this (from Georgia). that may be in this thread or I saw it somewhere else.

Great photo spread of that whole Flair-Backlund card in one of the Apter mags a few months after it happened. Photo coverage of every match on the card.

I don't remember this at all.  What was up with the Backlund-Blair angle?  They wrestle each other in I assume babyface matches, then team together out of respect?  Really?  Where the hell was I for that?  And the other babyface vs. babyface matches with Backlund and Santana and Bellomo were weird too.
