Claw if you need to kill these non-Backlund record book posts, feel free --

He (Rocky) is the guy that has all of that 8 mm footage of the 1970s Boston Garden shows. He does commentary on the matches (and ruins them) -- he also somehow has the video footage of Ivan Koloff beating Bruno Sammartino at MSG and some other 1970s MSG events as well.

No need to kill the Rocky Raymond talk. Rocky had the cheesiest music.

I needed a break from Backlund. I'll finish Greg Valentine & Larry Zbyszko first before I go back to work on Backlund and Andre.

Nice work on Backlund's record guys!

Got a few things to add to what's already here.

Bob Backlund:

? Mr. Fuji 24/02/1978 Long Island, NY
W-COR Ken Patera 27/03/1978 Boston, MA

Think this one could be confused with the match against Spiros Arion.

W-P Luke Graham ??/03/1978 Binghamton, NY
? Luke Graham ??/04/1978 Portland, ME

There is a return match for this in June in Portland, not sure if this or the March match took place.

W-COR George Steele 20/05/1978 Philadelphia, PA

Have this as a countout win.

W-COR Spiros Arion ??/05/1978 Wheeling, WV
W-P Luke Graham ??/04-05/1978 Altoona, PA

Again, not sure if this took place.

W Victor Rivera 02/06/1978 Los Angeles, CA

Have this for the card where Backlund won a battle royal. May be that he eliminated Rivera last? In which case this wouldn’t have been a title match.

NC Billy Graham 24/06/1978 Philadelphia, PA
*Referee declared both Backlund and Graham too bloody to continue.

You have this as a draw, believe that both men were too bloody – can you confirm Ron?

? Billy Graham 07/07/1978 Albany, NY

Never had this result before and I’ve discussed lots of matches with Ron, can you confirm it happened as it’s not on your site?

W-COR Billy Graham 12/07/1978 Philadelphia, PA

This took place on the same day as the dq against Graham in Landover, MD.

W Luke Graham 14/07/1978 Asbury Park, NJ
W Billy Graham 21/09/1978 Totowa, NJ

Have this as a Backlund win.

W Gorilla Monsoon 10/10/1978 Toronto, ON

Is this a duplicate of the September match?

D Harley Race 29/10/1978 Orlando, FL
*Race was NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Both titles on the line.

Can anybody confirm this was a double title match?

DDQ Greg Valentine 19/02/1979 New York, NY

Have this as a ddq not a draw. Was it ddq?

W Bulldog Brower 01/03/1979 Cherry Hill, NJ
L-COR Peter Miavia 02/03/1979 Albany, NY
? Greg Valentine ??/03/1979 Boston, MA
? Bulldog Brower ??/04/1979 Landover, MD
L-COR Peter Maivia ??/05/1979 Pittsburgh, PA
W Ron Star 06/06/1979 Los Angeles, CA
W Ernie Ladd 13/06/1979 Toronto, ON
W Butcher Brannigan 29/06/1979 Los Angeles, CA
W-P Peter Maivia ??/06/1979 Pittsburgh, PA
            *Special guest referee Gorilla Monsoon.
W Peter Maivia ??/06/1979 Binghamton, NY

I have a ton more defences after this.

Claw, do you want me to post them now or wait until you have listed the other results for Bob?

? Billy Graham 07/07/1978 Albany, NY

Yes the Albany match in 1978 is confirmed.   Albany, NY ran every other friday for years and years.  I know, I researched it out for years and years for the 70's.

And if your looking for more Graham vs Backlund, we also have from Albany probably the best match with Bob challenging for the title they ever did together.  I seen some of the other ones, and they litteraly sucked.

December 9, 1977  Albany, NY
Bob Backlund won by DQ over WWWF Champion Superstar Billy Graham, due to Grahams excessive roughness.

There is over 80 matches that are not on my site for my next Graham update. Aproximatley 16 of them are him as WWWF Champion.

For the Binghamton, NY date...   Luke wasnt in the WWWF in March of 78 at the house shows.  Also the date for Binghamton was March 18, 1978 and Luke was not on that card.  Binghamton was running once a month on Saturdays.

As for the Luke Graham  match in April of 78...  Their is no such thing, and their is no card in April for Portland.  Portland and Bangor did not run in April of 78.  The Portland date was to be April 11, 1978, but it was assigned to Augusta.  Also looking at the promo box for the June card, it does not mention anything about a return match.

Not sure who is giving you this stuff but they need to check their sources, or their own work before passing it off to you.  This is the schedule for Portland and Bangor and the other cities who were more than monthly in the mid 70's.  The other result sites do not reflect these cities correctly, in how they were ran with their line ups and results.  These are a few of the cities I have personally researched into their histories.  so I know their schedules and most other WWWF cities and how they scheduled them.

North Attleboro = every Friday
Albany, NY = every other Friday
Philadelphia, PA  arena  2 saturdays per month or almost every other Saturday
North Dartmouth, MA = every 3 weeks on Mondays
Portland, ME = every 3 weeks on Tuesdays
Philadelphia, PA  TV   = every 3 weeks on Tuesdays
Bangor, ME = every 3 weeks on Wednesdays
Hamburg, PA TV  = every 3 weeks on Wednesdays
Worcester, NY = every 3 weeks on Thursdays
Pughkeepsie, NY = every 3 weeks on Thursdays

W-COR Spiros Arion ??/05/1978 Wheeling, WV
W-P Luke Graham ??/04-05/1978 Altoona, PA

I have the correct date for Wheeling, just not sure what hard drive or flash drive it is on.

W Victor Rivera 02/06/1978 Los Angeles, CA
Have this for the card where Backlund won a battle royal. May be that he eliminated Rivera last? In which case this wouldn’t have been a title match.
This is where they started working the angle of Piper and Backlund.  I most likely have the clippings for this also somewhere

W-COR George Steele 20/05/1978 Philadelphia, PA
Have this as a countout win.

The 3 different Philly papers just state it as a win.

W-COR Billy Graham 12/07/1978 Philadelphia, PA

This took place on the same day as the dq against Graham in Landover, MD.

Landover has always been known to do matinees a few times a year.

D Harley Race 29/10/1978 Orlando, FL
*Race was NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Both titles on the line.

Can anybody confirm this was a double title match?

The programs said they were.  When the programs were printed Crimson Mask was late showing up for the event to check the programs for accuracy.  So Eddie Graham said "since their printed already we will make it title vs title, just like we advertised it, and how we had it printed.  What ever you guys do, dont tell that crimson kid that its title vs title."   And naturally the rest is history

Thanks Ron, great info as always. Let me know if you manage to find the Wheeling and LA clippings.

The countout win against Steele may be that I was given the result by somebody present at the show. A few people on the boards over the years (people who I consider to be reliable at least) have given me the details of matches.

I know I still have a bit of false info in my records but by singling out each wrestler's career its making it easier to confirm matches or otherwise.

Bob Backlund:

? Ivan Koloff 06/10/1979 Pittsburgh, PA
? Pat Patterson 06/10/1979 Springfield, MA
            *Cage match.

Have these 2 on the same date as the Hussein Arab match.

W Swede Hanson 10/10/1979 Landover, MD

Also have this match in between the 6th and 13th dates.

W-P Jimmy Valiant ??/11/1979 Greenwich, CT

Does anybody have any info for the above? I'm not sure about the matches on the 6th and the Hanson match on the 10th. Doubt they would have had matches 4 days apart in the same town, remember he faced Hussein Arab on the 6th, also in Landover.
