Here is a card found in the Powell newsletter downloads, Spinning Toe Hold #25: 02/16/80 Colorado Springs, CO David Sammartino beat Rikidozan Gino Caruso drew Larry Lane Gary Young beat Alex Perez Ricky Romero beat Randy Morse by DQ Bruno Sammartino beat Raoul Castro -COR I seem to recall reading about Bruno traveling a bit when David/Bruno Jr. Started... The other talent looks right aside from whoever thought using the Rilidozan name would mean anything in Colorado. And there is Randy Morse again!

During all the time he was champ from May 17 1963-January 18 1971 and December 10 1973-April 30 1977 did he ever wrestle any title vs title matches? Superstar wrestled Race in Miami January 25 1978. Backlund wrestled Bockwinkle in Toronto March 25 1979 Race in MSG September 22 1980 and Flair in Atlanta July 4 1982. Please advise.

WWWF results are so frustrating. On a Wednesday night, February 14, 1968, how can Bruno be in Baltimore and Hubbard, Ohio?

Andy, Upon further research, Hubbard, OH was actually Hubbard Junior High School in Plainfield, NJ, and it was most likely on February 13, 1968.

Really? Do you think that holds true for all the other references to Hubbard, Ohio cards?

Not necessarily. They did run Hubbard, OH sometimes; just in this case it was in Plainfield, NJ. The Hubbard, OH cards may need further research.

I have been impressed by Bruno's own recall of milestones in his career. He can cite venues and specific partners and opponents and the record books bear out the data. Not to say he would be completely able to answer questions of dates and locale, but he seems to deliver the goods if he is prompted with cues that spark a recollection.

I like the idea of moving the Hubbard card from the 14th to the 13th but the presence of Holtz and DeFazio on the card makes me think Ohio is a more likely locale than New Jersey.

my research shows Bruno beating Kowalski in Hubbard, OH on Feb 14, 1968 also it would be extremely rare that Pittsburgh would be running a show on a Tuesday night in this time frame (Feb 13 would have been a Tuesday) Last edited on Mon May 25th, 2015 02:56 am by Count Grog ____________________ Most people don't care if you're telling them the truth or if you're telling them a lie, as long as they're entertained by it. - Tom Waits |

After cross-referencing Killer Kowalski results database, I've determined this card in question actually happened February 14, 1969 in Hubbard, OH. Kowalski was not in the United States wrestling in 1968, but had returned to WWWF in the early part of 1969 to have many matches with Sammartino.

on checking my files I have similar results for both 1969 and 1968 so a Thursday show in 1969 in Hubbard is more believable than a Wed show in 1968
