That is what I've always wonder tamalie. I've always wondered how Backlund gained physical possession of the belt itself.

Re: Jerry Lawler being stripped of the AWA title... An episode of All Star Wrestling on YouTube has Bob Ryan, AWA legal counsel on the interview set to announce a telegram informing Lawler he was stripped of the championship as of 01/20/89 following his second failure to appear that night in Milwaukee. The first date was the Las Vegas taping earlier in January. The 2/7/89 St. Paul battle royal was announced here, with Dusty Rhodes and Tommy Rich announced as signed to appear.

The 02/18/89 card for Marshfield, WI Promoted Derrick Dukes vs. The Iron Sheik. This match did not take place.

Oh wow fun info OFG. In the article going over the results Thornton kept being called Bo Jackson. If I remember Swole correctly they did look alike facially.

Is there a resource for verifying the AWA's Bay Area shows from early 1981 to late 1987 when it abandoned the market? It started at the Oakland Coliseum Arena and later went to the Cow Palace, but also used Kaiser Convention Center (known as Oakland Civic Auditorium through 1984) in Oakland. Sometimes when I look at the results, I'm not certain the venues are correct or at times even the dates. For instance, there is a 12/28/82 card listed in Oakland and a 1/1/83 card listed in San Francisco. It's nearly impossible in my mind that the AWA ran both dates, especially with the crew heading back to the Midwest for at least one intervening card. The switching of venues also makes me wonder since by this point the AWA tended to find a building and run it continuously (even in Milwaukee, the Auditorium and Arena were in the same complex).

A couple of Facebook groups dealing with Northern California can probably assist in finding the answers. Many knowledgable members there like Rock Rims, Allen Bolte, Joe Sousa etc. Who lived through it and attended shows live.
