LOL holy shit they ran the Kearney Bowl.

How many of these buildings are even still standing - Stockton Civis, Fresno Memorial Auditorium, Cow Palace...

Kearney Bowl is long gone - that's been gone 30 years or more.

Re: Kearney Bowl

From the January 3, 1971 edition of the Fresno Bee,

"Kearney Bowl has been condemned"

More As I find it.

From the January 29, 1971 edition of the Fresno Bee Republican,

"After months of debate and delay, the Fresno City Unified School District has agreed to purchase 10 acres of the former Kearney Bowl site on which to construct the new Franklin Elementary School."

Looks like I have to go back earlier.

"Kearney Bowl, located in southwest Fresno, opened in 1929 and closed in 1970. Fresno legend Bill Vukovich got his start at the track running midgets. The oval played host to national and local racing legends such as A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones, George Snider and Al Pombo."

Ghetto...big time ghetto.

And I dont believe they ever built a school there - I believe that's still a vacant lot.

Put it this way - the location is in the 93706 zip code.

93706 is the single poorest zip code in the entire United States in terms of average household income.

But back in that day it was ranches, farms and some very, very wealthy folks.  Hence the racetrack, which did BIG business 50 years or more ago.

claw, at the risk of going slightly off topic here, did you ever come up with any San Francisco Sammartino results for 1961 other than the Chico Garcia match? Bruno seemed to have had all intentions of going full time in S.F. but the long arm of the blacklist may have stopped it.
